Krama
what type of glue is best for the plumbing? One that wont be toxic or crack over time? MJ
Fishkeepa
my guess would be silicone. Use aectic cure. Sellys makes aquarium safe silicone that you can get from a hardware store or ussually you can get some from the LFS. If you go to the hardware store just make sure it says its safe for aquariums. :bounce:

Alan
Nice simple answer but the guess was wrong I'm sorry. Silicone is no good on plastic plumbing. What you should get is a solvent glue especially for the purpose. Any plumbing shop will have it. What it does is melts the plastic surface of the pipes and with a quick twist and a push the seal is made. It is actually melted together and imo. impossible to get off again. So measure twice, cut once, do a dummy dry run, then glue. DON'T leave the solvent where kids can get it and seal the tin after use. Krama
thanks Caryl I would surpose it would speed up the set up time as well, with not having to wait for the glue to dry. Keep up the excellent work.

evilknieval69
LOL alan!! Yea, keep that solvent away from kids etc. as that stuff is POTENT!! i have a pottle of it in the garage, and i can tell you, if you dont use it in a VERY well ventilated area, you have a mean headache afterwards!!!! But i agree with cracker, if its something to do with saltwater, you would get more replys in the saltwater section Glad you got the help you needed
alanmin4304
The solvent is methyl ethyl ketone which has a distinctive smell. Make sure the lid is put back on tightly or you will only get to use it the once. The best joints are made by putting the adhesive on both halves, pushing together fully and giving a quarter of a turn. I asked a retired plumbing inspector.
