TM
As the title says, what would be the best digital camera for under $500. Can you get decent ones with a good macro function? How about DSLR's any close to this price?
suphew
How about DSLR's any close to this price? Hahahahahhahahahahahhahhhahahahahaaha Check out that direct importer shop, they have an online store but I can't find it. They seem to be the cheapest I have seen. misnoma
www.parallelimported.co.nz would be a place to start. No chance on a DSLR, however you can get some reasonable point/shoot cameras at the $500 mark. www.dpreview.com is the place to find out what's out there, and how good/bad it is

JDM
i have the cannon power shot S3IS, it is a very good camera, with the added feture of super macro, (has standard macro as well) great for close ups, i can get a perfect picture of my finger print! defenatly gets my vote for best value for money, allthough it is a little over $500  i got mine from harvey norman for $650 and the guy even through in a free bag, parallelinported.co.nz is good but harvey norman managed to beat there price and i got to play around with all the cameras before i decided which best suited my needs. chimera
i believe its the CCD chip that is one of the most important aspects of a digital camera, its the quality of the CCD that gains better quality and colour. That is why canon are such good cameras as they have top quality CCD's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charge-coupled_device I think other types of camera's use CMOS, here's a fact/fiction between the two. CCD is better quality basically. http://www.dalsa.com/shared/content/Pho ... willer.pdf

Or do you have to have extra long reverse hinging arms so that you can look from the front of the tank with the camera in the water? hmmm.. reminds me of trying to get the spark plugs out of the Alfa... Jettin
Hahahahahhahahahahahhahhhahahahahaaha No $500 is not close to the price for a NEW DSLR, but if you were to spend a little bit more, around $750 it will get you a second hand Canon 300 D DSLR. Heck i was even thinking about selling mine for around $700. Regards Jeff
