mat692
Ive done quite a bit of reading on different kelvin ratings and come to the conclusion that Im going to go with the kelvin rating that best suits my eyes (well close enough anyway) I currently have a 15000K fluro that the plants dont seem to mind so when I install my 2 150W MH ill be fitting them with 14000k bulbs as my computer froze b4 I could buy the 6400K ones on TM (being cheap I dont want to pay retail prices) will let you know how my plants do with the 14000s. Also what lighting is everyone else useing (for interest sake) I was using 2 5ft biolux and one 4 ft 15000K for a while but have cut back to the 15000 until my bulbs turn up. and my mini planted/baby tank (AR126) has a 8000K old bulb and really brings out the colours of the plants
Tanksman
I had problems with cyano in a lowly lit tank earlier this year. I replaced the light with an AL-30D by aquaone which came with a purply light of 15000k and a white light of 10000k. The cyano melted away instantly and now the plants are growing great. There is no CO2 though. So your 14000k light should work OK. Let us know tho. Are those bulbs goiing in the MH shop lighting you got? fishboi
Im so P*&%$#@ about those 6400K bulbs man.      with the 3 MH lights i got off u mat the plan is to have the two 6400k on the side and BLV blue [Model # - BLV224321] in the centre. at the moment all my tanks are run with AquaOne AL-D sires and they either have the standard 14000K and 10000K and when time to change them i put cheap day light tubes in which aren't made for aquarium use so no idea of the kelvin but a lot brighter than the 10000K. beachy
M/halides will look heaps more blue than 14000k flouro IMO. I have a 5000k Aquamedic bulb, which is a very natural looking colour, will prob go for 6500k next time i change bulbs though, a little more white would be nice. Fishboi, i have a 14000k bulb used for a couople of months you can have cheap if you want to get a bulb to try for the colour.
