  1. rnbo, i have noticed the same thing in my tank a couple of times. I have no idea what these worms were or their origins, but i have not worried about them and they have not worried about me. my fish have not had any symptoms of parasites, nor have i noticed anything unusual about my tank, so i left them alone. FG
  2. Nice looking setup shae. I would like to have a species tank for kribs too. The pair that I had bred three times and i had more kribs than i knew what to do with, so had to give them away in the end. were also overly territorial in my community tank. such a shame because they are such good looking fish. good luck with the breeding! FG
  3. Hi, havent read all of the replies to this post, but i wondered if anyone has suggested waterbed heaters? We used to use them at the winery I worked at to keep the ferments at a suitable temperature. Not sure if you could put these under a tank, but they seem to be pretty resilient. They were always getting soaked with wine/water and lasted a while. Waterbed heaters also have thermostats that you can set (digitally or with a dial) to the desired temp. There are a few for sale on trademe starting at $20 http://www.trademe.co.nz/House-garden/B ... 63105.html http://www.trademe.co.nz/House-garden/B ... 580047.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/House-garden/B ... 356440.htm Anyway, thats my two cents FG
  4. I thought that I would recommend an excellent book that I have found extremely useful over the past year or so. Its called "Tropical Fishlopedia - A complete guide to fish care". Written by Mary Bailey and Peter Burgess. It really is informative, thorough, and expertly written. I would have loved to have had this book when I started keeping fish, so i thought i'd share it with everyone. ( 9/10) I picked it up in Borders (auckland) but you might be able to find it elsewhere or through the internet (amazon)? Maybe other's would like to recommend books they've found useful because its hard to know until you actually read them :-? FG
  5. Diverjohn, I picked up some from bulk bin store, others from a specialist hydroponics shop. i think they are all pretty common. Sorry i cant be more specific... FG
  6. I made up some "Poor Mans Dupla Drops" and it (seemed to) work very well with my heavily planted tank. A quick search on google should give you the recipe. I think I have enough ingredients to last the rest of my life and it cost about $10 all up FG
  7. Hi all Drawing on Alan's post, is it possible to use a piece of material as a wick to draw water out of the tank and then evaporate? I would imagine that the material could hang just into the water, over the edge of the tank and then sit flat against a side of the tank. The subsequent evaporation from the damp material would draw heat from the tank water (and through the glass). You could even assist the evaporation with the use of a fan. Just an idea...have no clue whether it would work in practice. BTW my first ever post in (any) forum FG
