Hi, I'm currently building a fish pond in my back yard and I've used a shub ( small bath) for main pond dug into ground, with a child's plastic shell sandpit for the above ground pond which flows thru a waterfall in to shub. Both have no leaks and I was wondering whether I should use a pond liner or maybe just polythene seeing as I dont have to worry about stones making holes in it. Or maybe a thin layer of concrete over both. I want it to look reasonably natural. I was planning on using big river stones around the edges too. Any ideas ??? Cheers Glen

Just got given a 430 L tank, Aqua One CF 2200 canister filter, air pump, and a couple of fluro lights from a workmate who has had enough of fish keeping. I haven't had a decent size tank set up for a few years now and was wondering what is the general rule of thumb for canister filtration ? I have the Aqua one CF 2200 ( 2200 litres per hour ) and also a Aqua One CF 1200 (1200 litres per hour ) from my old tank, will this be enough filtration for my 450 L tank ? 0r will the CF 2200 be sufficient on its own ? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Glen

Yep i've figured it out thanks, just got to find some screws to screw it back together now. Thanks

Hi everyone. I've just been given a Aqua One CF-2200 cannister filter. Problem is part of it was in bits. I've managed to figure out how most of it goes back together, but I'm trying to find a manual for it just to make sure I have got it right, and to figure out how the valve/hose assembly attaches to the main cannister part. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Glen

No it was a rather large axe, quick and painless. LOL

Yeah I decided to put him out of his misery yesterday, quick axe to the head done the trick. And did a big water change and gravel clean. Hopefully that will be the end of it. Thanks every one for your help. Cheers

Yeah looks like your diagnosis might be right. Will take him out and put in tank by himself to see how he goes. thanks

Hi, I've got gold barb that looks as though its bent. Is this a problem or could it be pregnant ? Because it never used to look like this. The rest of my gold barbs look fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Glen

My partner loves Angels so we bought 2 angels in the weekend. Do you think sword tails would survive with angels ?
-
Can sword tails go in with bigger fish ? I read somewhere that they can cause they move so fast nothing can catch them. Is this right ? If so I might steal some ot of my sons tank.

Was on youtube tonight and found this, thought someone maybe interested.

oh well that definitely puts them off my list of fish for my tank. lol

Hi, as you may have read on an earlier post I just lost most of my fish ( both my heaters mysteriously unplugged themselves, and the 5 year old and 17 month old suspects in my house deny all knowledge of this LOL) and found out that that gold barbs, pakistani loaches, and silver danios can withstand a night in 8.6 degree water, and plecostamus, electric yellows, and severums cannot. LOL. As I am pretty much starting my tank again from scratch I was wondering if any one had some suggestions for some hardy easy to care for fish ? Needless to say my tank cabinet is now fitted with child proof catches. LOL. As I have a young family and work commitments the fish need to sometimes endure slightly extended periods between waterchanges. The only surviving fish in this tank are 3 x gold barbs, 1 x silver Danio, and 1 x pakistani loach. I am open to any suggestions wether it be a cichlid, or community tank etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Glen

Seen some discus in LFS today, in a tank with neons and a couple plecostomus. I thought the the discus looked really cool. I was just wondering are they hard too look after ? They are quite expensive to buy and I wouldn't like to buy some and have them die on me ? As I just lost most of my fish cause both my heaters mysteriously became unplugged. (The 5 year old and 17 month old suspects in my house deny all knowledge . LOL.) Tropical fish dont survive too well in 8.6 degree water. Cheers. Glen

You don't want to run extension leads under the ground thats not only dodgy but very dangerous. Plus if the fish room burnt down or something your insurance company wouldn't pay out. What Rich has said is pretty much right and I am a sparky, You wanna run a 6mm twin + Earth TPS cable inside a 25mm conduit pipe from your switchboard in the house out to your splitter box in your shed. And it has to be in a trench at least 500mm deep. You want to half fill the trench and run some orange warning marker tape across length of trench then fill in. Then you want to run 2.5mm twin + earth TPS cable from your splitter out to your power points. you would want to have at least two circuits and you can have up to 6 or 7 points on each circuit. Then run a 1mm cable from your splitter to your light switch then up to your light fitting ( if you are going to have lights ) The rest you would really have to get a sparky to do but you would save money running the cables yourself. I would reccomend buying the cable from Mitre 10 Mega or Bunnings but I don't think you would be able to get 6mm cable from their though. hope this helps.

I Had exactly the same problem as Nor_wester , My snake skin gourami got white spot, treated him, didn't really seem to be working so asked guy at the lfs he said to try adding tonic salt and crank the temprature up to 28C. My gourami started to come right, then two of my angels got what I thought was white spot (they are in the same tank as the gourami so I wasn't too worried cause I thought they would all be treated ) Now the angels fins and tails have gone all stringy. Is this fin rot rot ? All my other fish are fine. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks
-
yeah they have all been treated twice now. Might do a water change and give them another dose of "wunder" whitespot cure and some more tonic salt and see how they go.

Hi, I found a nice big piece of driftwood the other day on the beach for my tank. Normally I would just boil it in a big pot to sterilise it and get rid of any salt in it. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas how I could do this ?, as my drift wood is about a metre long and I don't have any thing that big to use. Do I even need to sterilise it or can i just get away with giving it a good scrub ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks

I have just put the larger 819 on layby last week, so my tank is getting closer to being completed. oh and my tank is 230L not 350 L like I previously said so the new 819 running at 1200L/h should filter my tank quite nicely. Thanks for the advice.
