  1. two weeks later fish added now for some pimp my tank style going on i made a custom sliding roof rail for the halides and a pair of bose cube monitors for the soothing sounds of fat freddys and other chilled music passive radiators make lots of mid-bass and no need for a sub that can ennoy your fish, i hate putting anything in the tank thats vibrating like powerheads ect.. it really does stress the fish out
  2. plants arranged and scaped i ran my eheim to a large container and fed it food to keep the cycle going while i transferred the plants and setup the tank (around two weeks) filled to the brimm (took over an hour to fill) next couple of days when the sand storm died down left middle right
  3. 8inch's of substrate at the back and the 3d terrace holds it in place tree i configured out of the driftwood pieces small rocks along the terrace too to stop gravel spilling over the white sand
  4. now my favorite part the aquascaping side of it :-) flourite mixed with 3-5mm red river rock + playsand driftwood from agnes waters (town of 1770) kick down and leveled tank in place. i had to move out of home becouse my mum and dads place is on stilts and cant support 1.5 ton of the bearings the things you do for your fish
  5. 3d backgrounds silicon on and go bars holding background in place eheim installation bars and custom out let i made drilling inlet holes old school dupla combi electra II i picked up on ebay illuminate ( 300w's hqi ) + 48w powercompact in the middle

  7. hey guys its aussie here and this is my personal DIY build for my 240 gallon 8x2x2 starfire tank this was a long journey and dream build i had planned for a long time, i had plenty of 2,3, and 4 footers through out the years of fish keeping and always wanted something a bit bigger like a 5 or 6 but i though stuff it i will just want something bigger again and went the whole hog with an 8x2x2 in 10mm starfire front and sides. so i ordered the tank and got thinking on idea's for the stocking list and overall scape, i had setup a 4ft previously to this and really like the whole planted tank setup becouse it looks natural, helps reduce nitrates and phosphates plus its a challange. so grab a bevvy and hope you enjoy this build log :-) 8x2x2 custom starfire front+sides low iron transparency

  20. hey guys and girls its aussie here and i have made a few cabinets over the year but only in black so this time i thought go a natural wood grain laminate for the colour i choose macassar ebony since having a spare couple of packing sheets we got for free :-) very happy the way it came out but never got to set the beast up i was going to sump it and run a reef but power-money-time run out and planted tanks got the best of me full sheet view close up start ripping all ripped out all edged up
  21. you need a very big tank (min 10,000 ltrs) and make sure its a race track (round corners) for stocking a shark and thats a black/white tip that grow up to 4-5 ft your smaller sharks like carpet, bamboo or epelites are much more smaller but still need a 300g plus tank min plenty of research, money and permits can make this dream happen, good luck bro if your looking at fw tropical the black shark can get some size and look great with other big fish but becarefull they have been known to have a temper on them
  22. nice work there  , i see you have added a sponge to silence the outflow, these tanks can get real noisey hey with the standard filter i got rid of my powerhead and just used a eheim 2228 and hooked it up to the wetdry spraybar that way i had the canister feeding the wet/dry and worked a treat is this a new setup looks great
  23. thanks guys @ alan i have used western australian jarrah burl and rock maple for the main contrasting colours solomon queen ebony, nz paua shell and rock maple for the inlayed banding and queensland hairy oak for the border, its never to late to get those tools into action mate, what type of reptiles do you keep?
  24. lol, now just paint it black and some white poker dots and that's a cheep motoro
  25. fishless cycle just add any rotting decaying matter eg.. shrimp heads, fish food even urine can set the cycle going the only problem with this method is getting high phosphates and more prone to algae issues I would recommend a beneficial bacteria booster like stability or sera nitravec
