    Planted Tank

Sorry - that was a quick list I put together. Here is my fuller list: Hair Grass (Carpeting) Java Fern Java Moss Amazon Sword Anubias Nana There is a more accurate list. And after doing a bit more research, that Fluorite Black Sand looks really nice, should contrast against the normal sand "beach" I have planned. This weekend im going off to find some driftwood for the tank Im looking for a really nice "tree stump" piece.

I am planning on having a carpeting effect for my aquascape, will the sand be adequate for that? Other than that it looks fine for my purposes

Do you know of any substrate like this? What type of soil would the person in the pic I uploaded be using? Will
  4. The thing I am more worried about is the width of my tank being too small! The coralbox is a good 15 cm wider than my tank, I was thinking maybe going with 4 of AquaWorlds PAR38 bulbs... Just to reduce the costs of wasted power. Do people have good growth with the PAR38's? My tank is quite shallow (30cm) so I am just thinking economically. If it still is the best option I will go with the coralbox. I am planning on adding a couple of fish to my frag tank, should I get a skimmer? I heard you could just use a HOB filter filled with carbon and live rock rubble.

I was hoping to keep the soil look, does it have to be covered in another substrate? I was planning on scaping it something like this: So I want to keep the soil and sand separate. Is there another type of soil I should be using?
  6. Where did you get the mussel? If its from NZ then I wouldn't think it would last long in tropical temperatures..... It filter feeds phytoplankton so make sure it has good flow. I would recommend trying to find some filter feeder food for it if you plan on keeping him long term. Although, considering he will quite probably die because of the temperature it might not be worth the effort and you should just return him to the ocean.....

    Planted Tank

Hi guys, Found a place I can get Daltons Aquatic Mix. Does anyone have any experience with it? Will
  8. I am not planning on setting this up as a reef tank, just a frag tank. I would quite like to rebuild the tank this time, because I want the experience. If I am able to get the specs up, can someone tell me if the brace in the middle is going to work? I read that using a under powered skimmer is good on a frag tank, can someone confirm this? Also regarding the budget, that is ok. I am currently throwing my budget out the window How high up should I mount the coralbox? I am building the stand soon so I want to know how high to make my light stands. The reason I really want the coralbox is the beautiful colours, and it sounds like it is a pretty quality unit. Regards, Will
  9. Hi all, After seeing Morcs' CoralBox, I would really consider dropping some $$ into getting one. The tank is 1.2m long, but very shallow. Which model should I get? I have budgeted around $1000 for this build, is that adequate? Also, the tank i bought has pink silicone?? The job is pretty botchy though so I am considering tearing the tank down and rebuilding it. Thoughts? Also, it has two braces on the edge of the tank, can I replace this with one in the middle? I will upload pics later. Regards, Will
  10. From what I understand, it is best to use a biological additive, and then put in a small bit of shrimp etc a day later. It speeds things up a bit
  11. Oh good, I think I may have found someone to take some of them and put them in a pond. And I can then get onto making this a frag tank If anyone is interested in them, please let me know! Regards, Will
  12. Well I picked up the tank. There are no comets, but they all have big tails. One is a bubble eye and is floating at the surface, still alive. Apparently he has been like that for nearly a year. A couple are just normal, big goldfish and one is MASSIVELY fat. Im not sure about goldfish, maybe overfeeding? Or pregnant? Either way I dont really want them as I would rather keep other fish in the mussel buoys im getting. So they are free to anyone who can pick them up Will
  13. Hi guys, Just found this LED Light. I thought it was just another crappy one, until I noticed fish-street sells them. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=738934262 Are those lights any good? I know the auction has ended. And if not, is this any good? http://www.ebay.com/itm/48-51-Aquarium-LED-Light-3W-x-32-Lunar-Reef-SPS-Fish-Plant-Tank-Hood-CE-/380844836033?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58ac1f04c1 The tank I want to light is pretty shallow, 33 cm. Regards, Will
  14. Well judging by the picture (Very grainy), I think there may be a comet in there. If so what would recommend for them? Give them away?
  15. I am not very familiar with the different types of goldfish, when I pick them up today I will take some pictures. Until I get the buoy I will have to house them in the tank, which I am pretty sure is too small for them.

    Planted Tank

I am planning on running CO2 in this system. I am going to the beach today to find some tree stump driftwood, so I am looking at getting plants like Java Fern, Anubias and Mosses. My tank is a little over 30 cm deep, perhaps this would be more suitable? http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/fish/lights-lamps/auction-740632031.htm or this http://www.pet.co.nz/product/fish/glo-t5-double/6712 Regards Will
  17. Are there any in the Nelson Lakes or Nelson region? They are amazing. EDIT: For those wondering about my sudden posting spree, I was soooooo close to getting 1 star I just had to
  18. Hi guys, The tank I just bought as a frag tank also comes with some goldfish . Anyway, I was wondering that if I was to take a mussel buoy and cut it in half would it be suitable for them? Will I need a filter if I keep up with water changes in there? And finally, will it be ok outside in freezing, sunny Nelson? Regards, Will
  19. That coralbox is looking good. I may have to use one on the frag tank I am setting up instead of my reef tank. Are the corals improving by it?
  20. Nice looking aquascape there, I love those two pillars on the left!

    Planted Tank

Hi all, I have a few questions about a planted tank I want to set up. Firstly, does anyone know where I can get some soil for my substrate in Nelson? I really like that look. And 2, will this http://www.petmart.co.nz/cart_product22555-1-3079.html?Title=AQUA%20ONE%20REFLECTOR%20FLUROGLOW%20T8%2030W%2036%20DOUBLE&Master_Category=FISH&Source_Category_ID=248 be good for keeping plants? Regards, Will

    200L Reef Tank

From what I understand, if you position them well, and get bulbs with the correct angle and put in dimmers, you can get them looking really good quite easily. Also can someone recommend to me the best place to get dry rock? Preferably somewhere in Christchurch or Nelson. Regards, Will

    200L Reef Tank

Hi guys, Quick question about dry rock, am I getting a good deal with $380 for a 25 KG Sack? That is from Living Reef, the thing is HFF sells it at $300 but I would need to ship it. Regards, Will

    200L Reef Tank

Oh wow, they are amazing! I am pretty sure I will go with these! They are cost effective, simple to install, and look beautiful. I have a few questions though, which bulbs will I need? These http://www.aquaworld.co.nz/estore/style/par38.aspx Or these http://www.aquaworld.co.nz/estore/style/par38-whiteblue.aspx Also, so I can fit these in a hood I am inclined to wire up my own fixture. Will these be OK? http://www.ebay.com/itm/5X-E27-Screw-Base-Round-Plastic-Light-Bulb-Lamp-Socket-Holder-Adapter-White-/290993291206?pt=US_Lighting_Parts_and_Accessories&hash=item43c08d3fc6 And how high up do I mount the bulbs so I get my 12" by 12" spread? Regards, Will
