  1. its an 80litre tank, i know abit on the small side. Im in the process of getting a larger one for him, but the previous owner could no longer look after him so ive had to do my best.
  2. i caught a fly for my oscar and my 3 year old niece and i watched it get gobbled up. She found it hilarious. Couldnt wait to tell her parents
  3. Ive been giving my oscar tiger fish lamb kidney once or twice a week. He seems to love it.
  4. Just abit of an update... Ive had a few more fatalities/losses. But i think ive got things mostly sorted now. I was given an oscar tiger fish which was desperate for a new home. Hes in abit of a small tank at the moment, but im on the look out for a larger tank. Im also wanting to start breeding my minnows and leopards so ill be trying to get the tank set up for that. Next things on the list are more plants and some snails. (prefer snails suitable for oscar tiger fish tank) Plants will be for the cold water tanks and im wanting to turn the tank oscar is in, into a neons and other suitable tropical set up anyway.. enjoy or give me pointers. cheers
  5. a product called tonic. Well i think the poor wee bugger has died. His eyes werent looking that great and i do wonder if he was blind. I had put him in my fish bowl on his own with treated water and im not sure if thats what finished him off Poor lil bugger. Doing the treatment on the 2 tanks now though.
  6. Bought some stuff and treating the water now. fingers crossed. Do they grow their fins back?

    fin rot

Got 1 telescopic eyed goldfish with a white spot and what looks to be fin rot. All of the other fish look to be fine. Ill go down to the supply store tomorrow to see whats available. Been doing regular 20% water changes so im wondering if maybe he was bitten or something. Is this a worry, or fairly common? cheers
  8. water temp in my fresh water tanks has been sitting on about 24 the last few days. Is this a concern? i will need steps in place to cool down if needed. What do people suggest? cheers
  9. will they breed on their own without any special treatment? or do you really need to make a point of getting things right for them?
  10. I want to see the leopard fish! i have got some myself. Very cool.
  11. I see you must have also! ha Yeah id imagine it would turn to weetbix if it got even a hint of water. These tanks are very much a learning exercise. i have ideas of what id like to do but my life is still chaos so until im settled ill just have to make do.
  12. yeah, i stood on it first lol. I was abit iffy. Not as iffy as i was picking the damn thing off the cds and putting it up there. dont recommend that.
  13. do you really think its an issue? i wouldve thought 1" of glass overhang wouldve been alright. Im no expert though.
  14. yep, i realise that 60litres of water =60kgs, plus weight of stones, plants, fish, glass etc. Safe as chch houses bro.
  15. room temp although i have a heater in there at present (not turned on) temp usually sits around 18-22 degrees Filtration is good, i ran the large pump for abit but it was too strong for the goldfish. The loaches usually hang near the bubble stone, but move around abit.
  16. Yeah it was very cool, i will go back to that when i get another tank.
  17. cheers, will do. plenty more fish tanks on the net. hmm lol
  18. yep, ive just done that. Both 60 litre tanks. The minnows and leopards in one in tank 2, 2x butterfly loaches 8 telescopic eyed goldies, 1 blackmoar and 2 which i dont know what they are yet. They are all still fairly young with the largest being roughly 5cm in length. I think someone mentioned that the 60 litre tank is too small for that sort of stock so ill get another tank and cycle it ready to transfer some into.
  19. Thanks. On that ive put the others into the old tank. Now thats probably over populated so i might just have to buy that other tank. DOh
  20. lol, funny in a hilarious but sorry for the loss kinda way! I took the largest of the fish out and put him back in his old tank. The other 3 remaining fish are small telescopic eyed goldies which would probably still be able to eat the smallest of the new ones, but after watching them for awhile i think they should be ok. Now, thats it for fish for now. The Borneo was my last loss and im going to do my best to make sure that losses are more manageable. Once im happy enough with my survival rates, im going to get another tank and look at some tropical fish. (although there is another 60l tank going cheap im trying not to buy!) I have had a crazy idea that it would be awesome to have 4 tanks the same size and then have tubes connecting them so fish can move between each tank. Probably too hard basket and impractical. Ah wells. Thanks for the help.
  21. Hey My minnows and leopard fish arrived today still really young. Are they ok to put in with general population and do they require special food? They are all 1-2 centimetres in length. Cheers
  22. cheers, yeah i have a grunty pump/filter but the goldfish dont like it. Might look at getting a seperate set up for these suckers later on. Minnows and leopard fish should arrive tomorrow! yus
  23. very cool. My pair of loaches are very playful and spend alot of time around the bubble stone. I wont get anymore until i have a better prepared tank, but they are awesome to look at when playing.
