  1. I emailed the NZ distributors to find this exact question, and got this helpful reply: "Silica has a density of about 2.5 that of water. So 5kg of silica will displace 5/2.5= 2 kg of water or 2 litres".
  2. I've just bought and installed one of these, after reading a very favourable review of similar UV sterilisers for fish tanks. I'll let you know if there are any problems. But I doubt there will be. I'm running it along side the normal filter stuff. N.B. These are not filters. They are water sterilisers. They work by circulating tank water around a fully enclosed UV light. The UV kills bacteria and algae etc in the water - WITOUT harming the good bacteria in your biological filter and gravel. It won't harm your plants. It will make your water will be clearer (perhaps crystal), cleaner, and smell less.
  3. I just bought some from 'Pet Mart' in ?Melling - near QueensGate shopping centre.
  4. Thanks guys. I am trying the combined treatment. I took a bucket of salted water out of the tank (65L), and replaced it with a bucket of fresh water. Then added the recommended dose of Wunder Tonic. I removed the carbon filter. I am also keeping the lights off because Malachite Green (one of the constituents of Wunder Tonic) is apparently light labile. I've read that it's recommended to continue treatment for 10 days AFTER all visible signs of ich have gone. So I will do that and report back. I've found this page to be useful with info about and treatments for ich. Although it is in a cichlid forum, it's more of a general guide and mentions other types of fish: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ich.php
  5. Can I use salt and Wunder Tonic at the same time? I'm at 23/24 degrees and have one of of those wet-dry filter (read aeration) systems that is built into the AquaOnes (mine is AquaMode 600).
  6. Hi guys I noticed some white spot in my tank. I tried Acriflavine, but more spots appeared after the first spots disappeared. So, I salted the tank with 4Tb per 5 gallons (18.9L) at a temperative of 23-24 degrees C. Again, more spots appeared after the first spots seems to successfully disappear. I'd appreciate advice on what to do now. The tank has guppies, hatchetfish, and a couple of shrimp. Many thanks, NZF
  7. If you would like to share in the cost of importing a batch of solid red guppies, please see the 'Wanted to Buy' forum under "WTB: Full RED guppy guppies wellington". See "UPDATE TWO" on the second page for full details.
