    some pics 2

as requested puttputt, some pic's sharpened. i actually also coloured them up a bit too to show how easily it's done. the first two show before and after in the same shot (mod on left, original on right), the last one is fully done and shows your original then my mod original slightly mod'ed
  5. or put a centameter around the RCD phase wire that runs your tank
  6. ok, i know this is gone on before, but my power bill for the last month is $330! thats prior to putting the 400W'ers on! have not worked out what portion is tank costs, but probably 1/3
  7. option 1 for me, thats what cookie does plus i dont feed frozen too often and the corals seem to lap up the juice

    Sumps

thats the key, you can design it so each tank will never flood. simply have enough room at the top of the tank so it can cope with the level of water in the sump. the worst that would then happen is the return pump would burn out. just build some form of redundancy into it by having twin overflows, or two pipes out of a single overflow

ok, will do tonight to show the difference
  11. and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you reopen a week old conversation  and I bet you thought this thread couldnt get passed a dozen posts...
  12. read the article in the sticky at the top of the saltwater section. cyano feed on doc's, as soon as the balance of good bacteria vs cyano is tipped, cyano have nothing to feed off and die. it seems to be just one of those things most people go through, mostly seems to be the next step after cycling is finished! cyano also love low water flow areas so up your flow!

    Steve's Tank

so true, zeovit seems to "lighten up" corals quite considerably. i've noticed this on my corals since starting zeovit, minimal colour still but dark browns have become a tan colour. i will persist with it though until i decide whether i like the look or not

    Steve's Tank

im bloody hoping!!! to be honest, the 150W just did not cut it, to many shaded areas and it was quite obvious wen i saw one half of the same acro showing signs of colour and the other side was brown! however it was when the 150W'ers were supplemented with T5's did improvements start to be noticeable, however there were still shaded areas. because of the aquascaping in my tank (the "rock wall" look, which i incidentally hate but arent going to change it til i upgrade) its hard to position corals in any place because of the shaded areas. since the move to 400W over 2/3's of the tank, the intensity is insane. i've taken 'before' pic's now plus am making note of what else is changed so I can see any changes with 400W lighting. watch this space

    New addition

we'll compare against the progress of mine then shall we? of course as we discussed, alot of other parameters involved but an interesting comparison nonetheless

thanks camera is crap (for macro shots) it's a sony dsc-p500 (5MB) karl weiss lens like most point and snap digi cameras. to gain the clarity, i've cropped the image then sharpened it with paintshop pro (have to, as the camera is not that good with macro shots). no colour enhancement though. i'll get another persons pic thats been posted on this site later and sharpen it so you can see the difference.

    New addition

I guess its always easier to add nutrients than remove them. Put in some cyclopeeze last night to see how the corals reacted, polyps went nuts!

might as well post some new pic's too, progress finally. i believe it to be a combo of better lighting but probably more importantly, stable and "adequate levels" for water chemistry (had poor ca, kh and mg for MONTHS) right side, top down (always looks better from above  )

    New addition

fair point. but things are progressing well now since i got some decent lighting (since the T5's went in things started getting better). will post some shots in another thread for you to ponder
