  2. its driving me insane!!! I have a Fluval 405 running, so was going to fill it up with filter wool hopefully that it will help it clear. I have been swirling it all around this morning while I am emptying the tank to get some of the dust out. What if i were to put some charcoal in there as well? Will that help clear the water?
  3. I have just put a bag of aragonite sand (1cm) into my 300L tank and even though i washed it a dozen times before putting it in, it is making my water cloudy, I have done 5 full water changes and even vaccumed the sand several times but its still making my water cloudy. Am I doing something wrong?
  4. yay! yep unscrew one end and then pull, not twist...
  5. Does anyone know how I change the lights in this tank?!! I have to unscrew one end that is attached to the hood and then twist maybe?

  7. I was planning to put mbuna in and was going to get mostly young but also a few older..
  8. Just wondering which fish to use to cycle a new cichlid tank? I have heard a raage of fish can be used, convicts to neon tetras to guppies.. i have a small 40l tank that I can transfer some of the media to the new tank and some cycle to add, but just wondering what the cheapest and most hardy fish would be to use? Also I have an UFO 880 tank so 305 litres, whihc aragonite sand.. how many fish do i use to cycle the tank? thanks
  9. ok thanks.. so i have three tubes in my hood, is it best to go for two white and one blue?
  10. I have a ufo 880 tank which has three lights, one has died (white ) and currently has a purple and a bright white. Seeing as I need to replace them anyway, which is the best to bring out colours of the fish? I was told maybe blue, red and white?
  11. Hi I have some coral in a small tank that while I get my larger tank background siliconed in - but have found that my white coral is going grey-y black in places. I have it in a small 40 litre tank with 3 GAE's and a clown loach. PH is 8.2 ...not sure if this is normal or not?
  12. hmm thanks - I am assuming that I can only clean the glass with warm water - ie no soap or window cleaner????

    Silicone?

Hey all - we are finally at the point where we are ready to silicone the background into the tank - however the silicone (sikaflex rtv) doesnt seem to hold the poly to the glass....am i doing something wrong or should i use something different?
  14. just wondering if you people who have made a poly background cemented and resin(ed) the back as well as the front. If so, is there anything special I need to do when siliconing to the glass?
  15. agreed, i need to find something suitable...can you buy the mesh that they use in the fish nets?
  16. hmm im starting a new tank so figure most of the fish will be very small and the holes are quite large...
  17. Just wondering what type of mesh you guys have used in your backgrounds to prevent the critters getting in behind? I have a few caves etc for water flow and wanted to put some kind of mesh or something to prevent fish getting in there and stuck..
  18. I am setting up a malawi cichlid tank, any ideas on which algae eaters would be ok in this tank?
  19. Great, thought as much but better to check!
  20. As I said in a previous post, we are making a background for my UFO 880 tank - but just wondering if we should cut it to make sure it fits, then epoxy it etc then reassemble and silicone it in the tank or if there is another way of doing it. The shape of the ufo makes it difficult to get it in without cutting the background and it also has two glass pieces on the top at the sides that we have to work around....maybe there is an easy solution and I am just making it more difficult than it needs to be!
  21. Great thanks for that we were getting worried that once installed an operating that it would burn and melt!
