  1. Hey guys quick question if any one can help. The little bubs are nearly free-swimming, however im really worried about them and the filter . Will they get sucked up??? ATM i have the filter turned off... so would it be best just to keep it off and do regular water changes? :dunno:
  2. Thanks Adrienne! Thought id let you guys know that the eggs have hatched/bouncing around and squirming. There not free-swimming yet but heres hoping they end up doing so! :happy2: Mummy seems to be incredibly protective but the tetras and harlequins don't even know that there babies in the tank yet as they haven't had a chance at swimming to the bottom of the tank as mum or dad chases them back up. Its really interesting to watch.
  3. Yea i had really know clue what to do with mine. He just constantly chased and abused her So in the end i put them in seperate tanks for about 2 weeks...seems to have done the trick
  4. Well i separated them for a week.. and re-introduced them together on Monday (5 days ago). They got along fine! and Now shes guarding about 100 eggs in the ceramic pot!!! :happy2: Seems they got over the domestic violence this week and got along just fine hahaha Cant wait for them to hatch!
  5. Ok so... woke up this morning to find her fins all damaged and huddled in the very bottom corner with him still abusing her. So i decided to move him out. Left her in the tank?? Hoping that was the right thing to do? Also do you think after a few days/week i could possibly add him back in to the tank?
  6. They were two brought from HFF just separately. There is also 4-5 caves ive made...the male has chosen to take them all lol if he happens to see anyone in any of the cages he'll race along and boot them out. Hence why the female krib lingers at the top of the tank. This morning she has a bit more colour to her. But she's still just floating near the top end of the tank..while he's happy as larry with his dominated land down the bottom haha. Ill keep an eye on them for a while... no fin-age had been hurt or damaged just yet. But ill keep an eye out and report back for now???

    Kribs

Hey guys, i joined ages ago but never really plucked the courage to post often. But im in need of your help... I recently (1 & 1/2 weeks ago) got some kribs for my 100L community tank. A male and female, just the two. However ever since i put them in the tank, the male krib fitted in well, he swims around like a happy chap, vibrant in colour, eating food and moving gravel. However... whenever he sees the female he chases her constantly to the point where now the female just floats mid way up the tank with no colour in her body at all, looking through the glass, being inactive literally just suspended in mid..well water. When he's out of her sight...she moves around a little bit (not much though). She just looks unhappy with no colour in her body (Note she did have colour when i originally brought her) Should I seperate them for a while??? and then re-introduce them into the tank. Also the tank is only lightly stocked with 10 neon tetras, 10 glow lights and two female swords. Much help would be appreciated
  8. Thanks cheers for that Whetu. I went ahead and used the search and actually came across a thread of yours previously with information on daltons and how you used it before. Along with mulitple other threads. Certainly found all the info i needed, and defiantley going to give the daltons a go. So thank you!
  9. Can i ask...do you have substrate at the bottom of your pond for your plants?? Or are all the plants in pots?
  10. gee im a retard. It didnt even cross my mind to do that. thanks Zev.
  11. Hey guys..just a few questions. Was wondering if anyones used Daltons Aquatic Mix and is it any good? Can you put it in your tank? Need a larger substrate on top? Does it cloud the water? If its alright with fish? Is it actually any good? But yeah if anyones used it could give me some pointers/tips on it. Or any experiences. Cheers Shrimpeh
  12. Well...i have 2 small ponds 1. Plastic/Fibreglass mold put into the ground. Costed me only $40 but its actully priced at like $130 i think. = $90-100 all up (including plants and all) 2. I made my own Deck pond (Which i love to death! ). I made a box frame out of timber (make sure its not rotting and is strong) in the yard (or you can buy cheap), made the sides out of treated plywood from Mitre10 mega (only costed like $23) for all 5 sides. Nailed it all together brought liner, put it in, filled it up, added plants (lillies mostly), baby goldfish. And bobs your uncle. The fish were small comets only about 2cm most of them are now 5cm long and i had babies goldfish aswell last year :bounce: = about...$45-60 all up i think, not to sure. And its 2 years old now and still sturdy. Oh and if your having a small pond... make sure your stock lightly at first! defiantely do not overstock. I also recently made another deck pond too. I have no filter in either pond (planning to get one) but the fish have been fine for the last 3 years (they had babies so...lol)
  13. Sorry i cannot not help. But may i say, ive just been reading through your blog and its wonderful a very well presented. Has been a great read for the past hour or so. Keep it up & Good luck!
  14. hmm okay i may be wrong then. Hopefully it should flower in the next week or so. Nd then hopefully it will help better.
  15. Ah! Yes you could say, just smaller. Pretty much exactly like that, on a smaller scale. Nd four petals not three. :bounce:
  16. hmmm....it definatley doesnt look like an arrowhead. But the last link to the Sagittaria platyphylla. Im going to try get a photo of it flowering (soon hopefully) for you guys, to show that it does not have white flowers.
  17. It grows both. In my pond its potted and grows up and out of the water (with those same leaves). And then little yellow flowers(pretty much like little buttercups) grow up and out onto the waters surface. From the pot/base of the plant runners grow and a baby plant grows (under water/submerged) until...well...it grows larger and emerges. I think i may have to get a photo of it flowering for you guys. Hopefully the one in the pond will flower soon due to the nice weather lately.
  18. Yes the one in the middle with the leaves growing out. Sorry forgot about the one behind/right. Thats a completely different plant sorry. But yea i just wanted to know the name of the plant so i could google it to find more info on it. So yea if anyone could help. It would be greatly appreciated.
  19. Hey there. Well i have this plant, got it from a friends goldfish pond. Grows very fast, has little yellow flowers kinda like little small buttercup flowers. I have it in my pond and recently put it in my tank and seem to be growing fine. It also has runners which sprout little babies. Sorry about the sunlight my tubes broken. I can take more if this is a useless photo
  20. Do you think....if i planted it a pot and placed it outside in a deck pond that i have (a small 1m*40cm rectangle box sitting on my deck), that has full sun over summer and winter it would grow well? Or is tank probably the best?
  21. haha well....its was an extremely long story back in primary school somewhat 13 years ago. lol. Nd then it unfortunately stuck, but ive grown to luv it
  22. By any chance Pheonix, have you used 'Nutrafin Plant Gro NPK'??? Just wondering as i recently brought some and testing it in a tank.
  23. Haha LOL. They had about 3 left (or threw them out) so ring tomorrow morning! Well im not sure. But the Pupuke Aquarium on the shore have some usually (they did last year from memory) so im gonna try that place out. Im guessing they dont courier though, not really sure if they do but ill ask.
  24. ooooh wow....ill PM you now for the location. Im on the shore also...so ill probably just have a look du to curiosity. I dont want any frogs my goldfish might eat them (or can they successfully live together?)
