  1. No its outdated because I use it at work and its makes everything more complicated then it has to be. And it still doesn't have certain functions that I find useful even after its many upgrades. I've spent lots of time having to look up how to do certain things because its either illogical to figure it out quickly yourself or it can't do it at all. After how many years did they FINALLY make it possible to NOT store email on a computer?

Outlook is outdated because you haven't spent 5 seconds googling how to make it do what you want? http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011507931033.aspx Click on the + next to pop 3.

  2. I saw clear hoses that are both thicker (less flimsy) and also ones reinforced with fiber/wire mesh at Bunnings.

I think that a pump will probably be the way you have to go in order to siphon upwards.

yes i could, i use the window for the top tanks but for the lower tanks its hard to start the siphon and have it running out the window. and is there a clear solid tube available somewhere as the one i get from plastic box is flimsy and way too easy to kink. the bathroom is down the hallway and i dont like teaving the other end unattended unless its excessivly secure, as i have cats that like to attack moving water, yes cats.

How about if you arrange your tanks like this (A) instead? You would need a bit more depth but it would be very accessible. Each of the 5 shelves could fit 3 levels of tank giving you a total of 15 and using the same amount of length as you have in B.

  3. I think it would only be a matter of time before you threw your back out or got tennis elbow cleaning this number of tanks of with buckets...

Any chance you can reach a drain/window/faucet with a longer hose (like a python)?

the tanks im thinking of using are all 1000x400x400, about 15 of them, possibly more.

and i will have to siphon all the tanks into a bucket, i have been concidering having a central siphon point in the room being just a half drum in the middle of the room with a pond pump to pump the waste water out the window

  4. Thats great :) That email addy is really professional.

Well if ihug keeps giving you trouble, just PM me if you are interested in how to load all your business accounts onto gmail and I can help explain further.

Aquila, My address is barrie at mckoyglass.co.nz

Problem is that I have them all directed through to my private email so I dont need to spend hours on all sorts of different sites

We have 4 businesses with several email adresses.

The voda phone phone number (when you push the tech number) says there is a problem

I also agree about the ihug or xtra addresses (or others)but normally they have a name attached as part of the address.

Problem is that often you get people (compeditors) simply trying to get your price lists so whereas they may well end up with them, you need to make it harder to get them.

I also suppose that it has to do with the type of client you do work for, we dont target small one off customers and the retail market

  5. Yeah, but if Barrie is really annoyed with how frequently his current provider is failing him and his business, we can recommend something with a better track record and functionality so he minimizes these problems in the future.

it doesn't matter what company you use for email, you will have issues at some point wether it be ihug, hotmail or what ever.

This is the problem I am referring to. Once you go home and try to re-read those emails you will not have acces to them, they are trapped at work. Outlook is outdated for this reason and incredibly frustrating. Using web-based mail eliminated the need for an extra program and its associated hassle.

Ihug/Vodafone can be accessed via webmail, but once you download the email to your email program b(ie Outlook) it is gone from the mail server. Think there might be a setting somewhere in Outlook to keep a copy on the mail server.

  6. I personally don't respect/take seriously companies that use accounts like xtra.co.nz or ihug.co.nz for their business any MORE then i would respect gmail or hotmail. I would highly recommend you buy a domain for your company. It is a sound and professional investment. Eg. you could be [email protected] (or whatever your company/website is). It is not too expensive, and the beautiful thing is that you can then link your domain name into gmail, thus all you email will be sent and received from a web-based email service like gmail (if that is the one you chose). So instead of people getting business emails from you from [email protected] it would arrive from [email protected] but you would be accessing it right through gmail.

This is what my partner does for both his companies.

And how would that look like for my company

Personally, I dont take seriously accounts like hotmail, yahoo and gmail when the user is asking for prices

They never get my best prices... ever

I am recieving mail but still cant send

  7. So just to clarify, the ihug is not working but internet is? Maybe its a server issue.

I avoid internet provider emails like the plague and just use Gmail. Never had any problems with it and never get junkmail and never miss anyone's legit email because it went to junkmail. Plus emails are stored online so i can access them from anywhere in the world (unlike Outlook)...not sure if you can do this with ihug. Plus its fast and very user-logical.

  8. That sounds pretty interesting...I'll check em out!

Powershop rocks! You choose the cheapest deal at the time and can stock up on it, eg buy lots in summer to last over winter. They are cheaper than over companies in summer but not in winter apparently, but still works out cheaper overall.

They often do deals and if you watch their facebook page, you get alerted when specials happen (possibly by email too)

I think if you get the start-up pack from the Warehouse, you'll get $20 credit as a bonus? Was at the time we signed up. Flatmate reckons they had a deal on their site too for $50 so check around first.

And haven't had any problems whatsoever, since you can enter your own meter number into the website it's really accurate. They do still check the meter (well, not us cos it's a smart meter) but since you're entering the number, there's no guesses, so you don't get any sudden really high bills cos of an off guess.

  9. Yeah...they refuse to admit any fault. Basically they send us the bill really late (like 3 days before its due) and we can't pay it in time because we are flatting (have to organize everyone) and get charged late fees. Sure, I could collect an estimate amount from the flatmates ahead of time, but its the principle of the useless service they are providing. My bf uses Contact at his work and the bill always arrives 2 weeks ahead of time and its never paid late, but they don't take that into consideration. They have been sending us 3 letters a week the last couple of months reminding us to pay the outstanding late fees but yet the next bill still arrives late.

    What a waste of paper...

We will be settling the outstanding amount, but that'll be the last money they get from us... and we will be closing both accounts.

I have heard good things about Meridian and NOVA, so that is what I am aiming for at this stage. I don't expect to save heaps of money or anything, but maybe find a more suitable plan with actual monthly meter readings, not just estimates...grrrrr

most are not too different in costs from what I can tell

I swapped from Genesis to Contact as I was not happy with Genesis but Contact are worst in my mind

I have a holliday place at Coromandel and one of the meters has not been work for a while. They have worked out the costs and sent me a estermated account for what they say was used but my records from the year before show a figure 20% less. The amount is not too much and I cant be bothered with continuing the fight so will pay it and move on (flush the dunny and move on) but what now riles me is that they have said Im on the wrong rate so will be adjusting upwards as well

They saw Genesis's account and were suppost to be betteringn that

From the frypan into the fire

As for the dispute, you may find that you wont be able to change until its settled

Good luck, I will await your searching with interest

  10. Yes phenotypic plasticity is increadibly strong in numerous fish species...

I worked on a huge project in uni looking at the diversion of a Stickleback's morphology into benthic and pelagic forms, including measuring gill rackers, body morphometrics, etc.

I haven't read the article really thoroughly but I image they were looking at a specific set of genes during the study to make a statement like that.

    http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4152984

That makes me really question the article saying they "evolved" in 100 generations, especially if F2-3 captive bred ones from wild fat-lipped parents will develop the lips if places in an environment that requires them to use them.

  11. Ok so we are really annoyed with Contact Energy over an ongoing dispute and will be researching/shopping for a new company to take over this weekend. Please give us your recommendations for who we should go with so this is as painless as possible! I don't know our current rate (b/c the bills are at home) but will be aiming to get something cheaper if possible...
