  1. My 2 blueys are being worm drenched with Panacur. My lovely vet Christine put a lot of time and research into the project and came up with a dose rate and Izzy is on day 2 of a 3 day drenching and I will start Bluey on day 4. It is 3 days of the Panacur, then 10 days off then another 3 days on. Then I will get another poo sample analysed. Cheers, Vee
  2. This is how they live indoors. In my lounge. It isn't pretty but seems effective and not too expensive.
  3. Hi snake kid. That wire cage is just their "outside soaking up the uv rays" cage. Though it would work as a permanent home I guess. But my 2 live INDOORS in 2 nylon "flexariums". Side by side. Cheers, Vee
  4. Hi DonnaM. If you can give me the vets email addy {or phone number} that would be super because I am sure my vet up here in Picton would be happy to make contact and ask advice. I know Christine {my vet} is keen to do the best she can for my skinks but this is completely new to her. Cheers, Vee
  5. Oh..good for her. I wish I could say the same..that I had a supportive partner. But he is always down in the harbour playing on his boat!! Leaving me 2 skinks and 4 dogs for company. Cheers, Vee
  6. repto.... thanks for that info on ivomec. I sure wont be going that way! Cheers, vee
  7. I did water creatures way in the past. Now I am happy to have dry-land creatures. Much easier. Mind you... I wasn't exactly looking to have 2 blue tongue skinks either...it just sort of happened! Cheers, Vee
  8. WOW...you will have you hands FULL! I am impressed. Thanks for that. Cheers, Vee
  9. No turtles? fish? Not being cheeky...just nosey! Cheers, Vee
  10. Thanks again. I have emailed off to my reptile supply outlet because I have found there is a commercial product available in Aust. WORM-RID – REPTILE SCIENCE. Maybe it can be sourced for me here. What sort of reptiles have you got kiwiplymouth? Cheers, Vee
  11. Thanks for such a prompt reply Kiwiplymouth. Yes, as an ex farmer I am aware of what ivomec is/does. I would be relying on my vet to make the judgement call for dose rate etc. But I really want to know if there are alternatives? What others have used? Is there better choices? Cheers, Vee
  12. I took a poo sample from Izzy {blue tongue skink} to my vet for analysis. Results just back show pin worms. 3,000+ eggs per gram. My vet did a quick google of pin worms/lizards and about all she came up with was a sheep drench. Brand name Ivomec. Is there a procedure for drenching our skinks? What do others use? If anything. Being as I am very new to skinks altogether, any advice would be most welcome please. Cheers, Vee
  13. Don't hold your breath Aqua!! It takes up enough of my time and money having 2. Photo of them under the basking light late this afternoon. Izzy on top! Colour is a bit artificial.
  14. I had to wake my 2 up today. Gray, raining and no sunshine. So I woke them about 3.30 pm and plonked them under the basking light...here we have...Izzy on top.
  15. Talking about meal worms {if any one was!!!} is it only my 2 kids that are so not interested? They are like... meal worms..... BORING!!! Cheers, Vee
  16. G'day Freaknz. I can't find any snails! Could be because of long dry spell here where I live. Right up until a week before I got Izzy, we were surrounded with an endless supply of cicadas. Sadly they petered out just as Izzy arrived. But she has always been a boomer eater, the minute I drop her little feeding dish down in fron of her she gobbles up whatever is on it. Her fave delight though is the pieces of raw ox-heart. Nice fresh and juicy. I buy an ox heart, or peice of, cut it into strips removing sinewy bits, free freeze the strips, then just take out one strip per day and chop to suitable bite sized piece then feed either on the dish or with tweezers directly to her mouth. Anyway, Bluey when I first got him worried me sick cos he showed little interest in any food. But the first thing he did excite about was a piece of raw chicken and you could have heard me YAHOOOO-ing up there in W'gton when he ate a few pieces via the tweezers. next day I mixed chicken pieces with ox heart pieces and he is away laughing now. Yesterday he gobbled up a couple of baby tomatoes that are still coming ripe on my cherry tomato plant. Oh...was it you talking about worms? If you get commercial....worm farm..... worms, they will be the "tiger" variety worms. Now I don't know what others have to say about this...but years ago when I had turtles of different varieties I found the ordinary old garden worms we find in our garden went down fine...but the tiger or compost worms were not eagerly eaten. Mostly ignored in fact. Anyone else finding their skinks are eating the tiger worms? Cheers, Vee
  17. Hi there, good to read your post and you will feel happy to have seen the vet. Will your little guy eat Flukers gourmet-style crickets? They look really nutritious... even to me and I am a vegetarian! I hope his breathing corrects itself soon. Cheers, Vee
  18. Hi Dand A. My Izzy is now Izzy and Bluey! Yes, I have posted a few photos. Must add a few more this evening. I have loads, they are so photogenic! I am so enjoying them. Cheers, Vee
  19. Hi DonnaM, nice to hear from you. Wish there were more hours in a day so I could get in more browsing on this great site. Cheers, Vee
  20. And then there was two.. Izzy is now Izzy and Bluey. Here they are sunning themselves this morning. And flirting at the watering hole.
  21. Hi there, I am pretty much new to this forum myself. I post in reptiles as I have a blue tongue skink. But sometimes its nice to see what other are doing in their chosen interests as well. Cheers, Vee
  22. Hi, I am very new to lizard keeping, so don't know much yet, but because I had frozen blueberries in the freezer for myself when I got Izzy, I offered some to her {defrosted of course} and boy does she love them! Easy to keep a few on hand in the freezer too. Cheers, Vee
  23. When I had my adult female terrapin a couple of years back she liked to eat tinned shrimps. The ones in brine. I always took her out of her main tank and put her in a small temp plastic basin { a few dollars at supermarket} to feed. It was just big enough for her to paddle and eat her food under water in then I thew that water over the garden when she was finished and she didn't make such a mess in her main tank. She knew that popping her into the basin meaant a meal was on its way. Thin strips of oxheart went down well too. You can cut that into strips and free flow freeze. Cheers, Vee
  24. 2 more photos of the Divine Ms Izzy. Cheers, Vee
  25. Aqua, the snugglesafe pad hasn't come out of the microwave. If it had I would put a cover on. It is warmed only by the heat of the lamp hanging above it and that makes a very gentle heat. I am keeping a very watchful eye on it!
