  1. Very impressive, especially the fish! Plus, you've got some very cool aquarium products that seem awfully cheap for what they are ;D!

    Carpet Inanga ;[

RE Stella Right, I'll up the Friday night water changes to twice a week. Thanks for the advice.

    Carpet Inanga ;[

YAY! She's alive! Pretty pale, and the fins are dried out and frayed a bit - but she's happy and giving my finger kisses, so it's all good!
  4. Came in this morning to find that I had left the tank lid cracked open 1 cm, and that my favorite Inanga was now dried up on the carpet ;'[. But, she's still breathing so there's a tiny bit of hope yet, she's laying on the bottom of the tank on her side breathing heavily. Terrible way to start the day! I'm always keeping that lid securely latched from now on!
  5. RE alanmin4304 Do I have a chance with dual 20w T8's, 0.5 BPS on the DIY CO² & regular API Leaf Zone?
  6. Here's my car :] - The old man's got it now though.
  7. Wow, I love these little guys. They're pretty much unnoticeable in my tank, yet have cleaned ALL the thick brown algae off the back of my tank! BEFORE: 20 DAYS LATER: Here's what my tank looks like now, pretty crappy picture, but meh...
  8. That's true Spoon, he makes it hard, but I've got a system in place. I've got a diagonal piece of driftwood under the light, surrounded by a wall of Java Moss. So far he hasn't touched them ;P. He hates the moss because it gets all tangled in his various appendages ;D.
  9. Ha! He's got the two first ever Superbikes - the '69 Honda CB750 K0 and the '73 Kawasaki Z1 - AND a 1973 Mitsubishi Colt! Name a single 70's Brittish/American bike that'll run 12's from the factory!
  10. I've just upgraded the lighting on my coldwater 80*30*30 72l (55l H20) to 40w from 20w. So, I was looking through the plants section and discovered the whole "Native Plant" thing. I'd always assumed all we had was duck/oxygen weed and a million different types of slime. Well, turns out I'm wrong... ... So where can I acquire such plants in Christchurch? Do they even grow this far south?
  11. Just out of interest, what and from where do you plan to import from? Because my old man has imported a couple of classic Japanese motorcycles from the States over the past few years - most of the lessons he's learned from that could come in handy.
  12. That's pretty epic, just out of interest, what are the breeding pair valued at?
  13. RE Stalla Yep, I've used the credit card before, it probably does a much better job than the suction cup - but give the suction cup a go if you've got the time/soft algae ;P.
  14. Not if you don't have sand in your tank, don't mind getting wet and can't afford a $7.95 magnetic algae scrubber - so, in most cases yeah, you wouldn't bother... BUT, I bet they said the same thing to the guy who came up with the DIY CO2 bottle!
  15. Gidday all, Have been noticing lately that there's a bit of brown algae on the sides of my tank, but it's crystal clear where I've been sliding the thermometer in and out. Which got me thinking, so I tried it out on the front of the tank and to my joy it did a wonderful job! All the brown gunk didn't seem to go straight into the aquarium either, it was collecting under the suction cup - choice! It glides around effortlessly, and didn't scratch the glass. Surely someone else has come across this before? Maybe we'll see an AquaOne Suc 'n Glide in the near future?
  16. Just how big is this thing, have you given it a name?
  17. Thanks for the advice, they're crunchy, so I'm leaning towards some sort of snail thing!
  18. I don't know what these things are, but I'm guessing they came with the Java moss I got a month or so back. They're about 3mm long, mostly transparent and zoom around clearing paths through the algae. Any ideas? They're not... poisonous are they?

    grumpy betta

How big is your tank? I've heard they'll kill if they get bothered.
  20. Thanks for the leads TM, I'll have a good read through them all tonight. Thanks to MarkLB for a couple of very juicy leads. Still, if anyone's got any more I'd greatly appreciate it!
  21. Gidday, I've had a bit of trouble finding work lately, mostly due to the recession and my narrow line of work. So if anyone knows of anyone who's hiring in Christchurch could they please PM me, or post any leads/hints in here. I'm a web developer primarily, but am capable with most IT work. But am looking for any work right now! My CV: http://alex.cjmg.co.nz PS: If this violates any forum regulations then I'm sorry, but it's beyond a joke now! Cheers, Romeo
  22. Soldat is a great little fun 2d shooter game. If you love blood and guts, it's good for a few hours entertainment. http://www.soldat.pl/

    Filters

I've heard of people using under gravel filters and reversing the flow. So it pumps water in, rather than sucking water out. Any thoughts on the two methods? I'd think that the reverse method would work better for some reason.
  24. Make sure your lid is very secure with no holes, or else they'll become carpet eels - just like my two tiny ones when I was a kid. Whatever you're feeding them has to be better than the rotting filth they most likely eat in the wild :]
  25. Wow, awesome! I used to live in Blenheim and was always out at Whites bay, once I spotted what I thought was a catfish in there. Clearly that cannot be the case, but I'm pretty sure it had barbels of some sort ;s! I never knew they could have Kokupu in there, that's incredible!
