  1. I will do that on Monday!
  2. Alan, I think the Echinodorus is the quadricostatus, I have this plant in my lounge display tank!
  3. Further to the "Belly Sliders" I always use oxygen tablet when wetting peat. It was a tip I got from Jesper Thorup in Demark, because in the beginning breeding Nigs., I always got "Belly Sliders" In the last 3 hatchings of about 100+ no "Belly Sliders"
  4. Further to the above, I also think, I have some N. rachovii!
  5. Alan and Barrie I think, I have some Nigs peat, but have to see when I come home!
  6. I have never had Velvet in my Nothos, but this may come one day! My Nothos get a small dose of Salt every day, when feeding Brine Schrimp, maybe this keeps the Velvet a bay?
  7. My theory for what it is worth! I beleive it is an infection of the swim bladder, but I am sure there are people out there whom can ansver the problem better.
  8. I thought, I would never see this, but I have a 10 months old N. rachovii male "Belly Slider", and I have no idea why, but he is jumping along the bottom of his tank containing several males?

    Peat

No Barrie, I am not boiling the Hauraki peat, but if TM is using Peat containing fertiliser, he has to boil that first before using it for spawning.

Hi Cam, Just put a bit of filter wool in the hole, that will stop them jumping out of the tank! Cheers, ej

    Breeding setups

Sorry I do not have any photos of my first killi cubbord. Yes 4C is very cold just before turning into ice. There are several specises of killis Apanius can live in almost the most servere conditions, when visiting Denmark, I visited Martin Tverstad, he told me, his outside ponds had approx. 1 metre of ice over the vinter period, and the Apanius was still alive when the ice melted.

Alan, I have no problem with breeding both the Chocolate and the Golden. I only use pure rain water, what water are you using? Cheers, Erling

    Breeding setups

Hi Alan, Thank you very much for the information re. what a building under 10m2 cannot contain, I must admit, I did not know this! When I fist got in to Killis, I had a small cubbord in the garage it was 1500mm H X 800mm W X 400mm D it was well insulated and was heated with a termostated controled 60W light bulb. In this simple setup I did breed several Killi species, but maily A. australe which is one of the easy Killis to breed from. I can also recommend the Aus. nigripinnis, this South America Killi can cope with temperature down to 4C. I keep them outside all year in plastic containers, and they are breeding for me in Clay Flower Pots filled with peat. This way they get plenty of insects in their diet.

    Breeding setups

Hi TM, I would like to give you a couple of hints for building a Fishroom. When I build mine, which is 2.2 X 4.5 metre square (Just under 10m2 and therefore no permit required) I installed water, floor drain and floor solar heating. It has a termostat regulated wall heater keeping the temperature between 24C and 25C, it is well insulated with 100mm batch in both walls and roof, I also have a small air compressor. There are tanks measuring 150 X 150 X 300mm and 150 X 300 X 300mm on both side of the room, and a few tanks measuring 300 X 300 X 600mm. I collect rain water from the roof in a big plastic drum outside, from where it is pumped inside the fish room filtered and kept in 60 liter tanks where it sits untill the room temperature brings it up to 24C. The fish room is now four years old, and I have found it to work very well for breeding several species of killifish. In the event you need further details or information, please feel free to contact me.
  16. Thank you Stuart, I will have a look at the Warehouse for the materials.
  17. It may be plastic? But the materials is for small internal filters to be driven by air. I am after sheets of the materials say 75mm or 100mm thick, then to be cut for squares 75mm X 75mm with a hole in the middle for the air tube.
  18. Hi All, Does anyone know where I can obtain Foam Rubber suitable for internal filter? In advance, thank you. Cheers, EJ
  19. The eggs are when normal clear maybe leight yellow, having not seen them, leave them for a couple of days
  20. Yes you can add a small amount of Meth Blue, I do hope the eggs has not gone whithis, and if that is the reason the male has left the eggs?
  21. Just give him time, but if he does not look after the eggs during the day, can you place an airstone close by the eggs?
  22. I removed the female, when the fry hatched, just to make sure she did not get any ideas eating the eggs or fry when they hatched.
  23. Hi The Rams hatch 3 - 4 days after laying and will be free swimming after 5 - 6 days
  24. Hi I will recommend you take out the female, because in a couple of weeks she will be ready to spawn again, and she will eat the frys. When I bread the Ram's, I did remove the female, and the male was a very good parent looking after the fry's Cheers, EJ

    Clown Killie tank

Hi Dixon, Yes you are right the Chain Loach will eat the small fry, but the snails will also eat the eggs from the Clown's, you therefore in my opinion, have to remove the sanils first. Cheers, EJ
