  1. O for awesome!! Cheers mods/admin!!!
  2. In habitat males can get up to 2', females a bit smaller, don't normally get quite that big in captivity.

    Uaru

They were both around 7-8", so should have been big enough I think. Either that or he was just clueless, no one gave him the birds and bees talk...
  4. :-? Gristle and shell, I wouldn't waste my energy catching them to feed to any fish. Plus who knows what sprays etc they've got on them...
  5. Certainly not $1700 like Jansens were asking when they were selling them!!!! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=96034308 Shameless free plug for our breeder, really helpful and knowlegeable guy, the adults are beautiful and really well cared for. Wouldn't have bought them from anyone else, even if they were cheaper!

    Uaru

Around 5-6", will be interesting to see what happens if/when two of them pair up! My first pair must have been lesbians because they laid eggs all the time but they never got fertilised.
  7. How many other people here keep reptiles as well as fish?? We've just purchased three baby bearded dragons! Currently have them housed in an old 3' tank, but will be building a larger purpose-built enclosure soon. If there's enough interest, would the Admin consider adding a 'Reptiles' forum to 'The Specialists Corner' to cover the likes of turtles, newts, dragons, skinks etc?? After all, this is the Aquarium Forum, not just fish!
  8. I'd keep it as an occasional treat, don't spoil him and let him get fussy!!

    Uaru

Sounds like a good idea, and get more than two! *edit* Pics: Any pictures of yours Alan?
  10. Around 5", slightly smaller than the dat. They'll probably grow a bit faster tho.
  11. I've got mine in with the bichir, 3 uaru, 4 clown loaches and a couple of catfish.
  12. Why not put the loaches with the geos?
  13. Do we get both here? I've never really bothered to learn how to tell them apart!
  14. http://www.pbase.com/pschia/image/24996062 http://www.pbase.com/pschia/image/13459080 http://www.pbase.com/pschia/image/58633998 Damn I wish we could get snakeheads here, and more bichirs!!!! Some beautiful fish on there, and good photos too.
  15. Mine used to when it was smaller, doesnt seem to any more. It seemed to be a stress thing, when he was being shy. He's also got a lot more bold now he's around 6". Proper name is Datnioides microlepis, also called tiger datnoid, siamese tiger fish etc.
  16. Me too, I havent set up a tank from scratch in years, even moving from hamilton to whangarei to auckland!
  17. How fast do small goldfish grow? They'd need to be about 4-5cm long to make a good meal for my dat, just over $1 each is cheaper than any feeders I've seen in the shops!
  18. IMO thats not really an amazon tank, its just a planted tank with amazon fish in it (although still very impressive and beautiful!). Here's some habitat pics that might give you some ideas. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k186/ ... Water1.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k186/ ... 19. Wow cool pics luke, you can really see the spine below her eye! Cant wait til mine get that big, I've got four around 8cm, want more but 99% of the ones at the LFS would end up a snack in my tank...
  20. Get rid of it. Mine used to chase my 2' arowana around the top of the tank at night.....
  21. Forget about the plants and get some uarus!!! One of the best SA cichlids IMO, no biotope tank would be complete without them! Some cool pleco's, pictus and raphael catfish will finish it off nicely.
  22. I got mine from Hollywoods, its more of a fine grit than sand. Looks better and probably safer than stuff taken from the beach. (Isnt that illegal anyway?)
  23. David R

    This or that

Probably dwarf, would be easier for my dat to swallow  Thai or indian curry?
  24. I thought there would be a couple, just didnt know how available they'd be here. I love the idea of a biotope tank too, but with limited space and money its hard. One day I'll have my 8' amazon tank..........
