Thanks Alan, Here's a pic of the bigger one.. This guy usually runs (swims) when I have the camera.. Pic isn't as good as it probably could have been, I have to light the tank up and take some new pics.. So far this one is about 10cm from tip of nose to tip of tail.

I'd say it's Yahoo not allowing off server requests.

thanks Ira & Northland chic. I'll keep an eye on them but by the looks of it I manage to clean the majority of them out with water changes and hopefully the new (external) filtration will help keep the tank reasonably clear of them. I've kept a couple in an incubation container to try and see if they grow into something else. my eldest daughter (7) came up with the idea for a science experiment so it should keep her amuzed if nothing else. now to start moving / squashing some of those snails before they decide to go fast food on the plants...

Hi Interfecus, It doesn't appear to have an "arrow" shaped head. I've done some looking around and the closest thing I've found to what it looks like is thread worm. I havn't seen anymore since doing a major water change, but i'll keep a closer eye on it over the next week. Should I go as far as dosing the tank with anything or should I just go with doing water changes every couple of days? Thanks.

Hi Everyone, Been awhile since I've been on here. but I'd like to know if someone has any idea on what this is. I setup my large Red Tail Shark tank (300ltr) and after putting in some plants which I thought I'd cleaned and checked well enough I start to find baby snails. (no biggy, I can deal with them easily enough I think. But. doing a water change today I noticed this little guy swimming around (See img I attatched) . It's about 5mm long.. (Sorry about the photo quality I need a new microscope..) Any ideas on what the hell this is (I watched it for about an hour before removing it and the sharks don't appear to go at it as food) Thanks.. Craig.

Thanks, My g/f is also fascinated with Sea Horses, after we did a trip to the Sea Horse farm in napier with the Palmerston Aquarium Society (great trip) I'm now being bugged to turn my hex tank into a marine tank for a couple sea horses (once my current residents are moved into a new bigger home) who needs anywhere to sit around the house... :lol: between me the kids and my g/f there's going to be more water than wood in this place..

hehe. yeah, I was one of those lurkers.. I think I read every thread on here before I signed up. Hope the breeding goes well, I'm currently in the process of setting up a couple of conditioning tanks and a breeding tank as I want to try and breed the red tail shark (Epalzeorhynchos bicolor).. I've read alot about it being hard in an aquarium situation but I think I'm up for the challenge.

Hi JJJ Havn't tried it but would probably produce a cool effect... Don't know if it's true or not, but I read somewhere that fish use the light to swim "up the right way" so if it is wouldn't the fish then start swimming upside down... :lol: Be an interesting experiment to say the least..

Hi Pegasus, The reading I've done about them it could be possible to spawn them. "Because of an aggressive attitude toward its own species it is difficult to breed. Success is infrequent"

Hi Robbo, Thanks, The little tank i'm either going to use as a Quarantine or as the inital tank for a Red Tailed Shark (Epalzeorhynchos bicolor). Though I have started saving for a larger tank to setup as a tropical fresh water.

Hi everyone, first off, thanks for the welcomes. Look forward to making regular visits here. Robbo/All: I'll be sure to get some great photo's of the tank once the fish go in. All going well I should be getting a few comits in the next couple of days. Andrew: Would love some information on the club. Sound's like a great way to get to know some people with the same interest (without getting odd looks. :lol: MGilchrist: I can see how the growth can happen. I would like to eventually setup a Tropical Tank aswell. though I figured seeing as it's my first time with an Aquarium I'd stick to cold water. Don't know if it's any easier or harder than a tropical but figured it was a good place to start. Cat: Defenately interested in the club. And I'll be sure to keep you all up to date on how things are progessing. I'll make sure the lighting over the tank is better too for the photo once fishies are in their new home. Tracey: Can't really comment on Wet Pets as it's pretty much the only "Fishy" shop i've delt with so can't really compare them to anyone else. but I have to agree it is a great shop.

Hi Robbo, Yeah, My tank is more vertical but not by a lot. At the moment I'm thinking of starting out with a few comits (Goldfish) I should really light up the tank to the hilt and get a better photo. Hi Sue, Thanks for the offer sue, at the moment I think i'll just go for goldfish to begin with. I plan on getting another tank later on to go tropical as I quite like the Red Tail Shark.

Hi All, I've been browsing the site for a couple of days now and thought I should join and introduce myself. I'm a 27yo living in Palmerston North. I have 2 wonderful daughters (6 & 4) with my partner, I'm currently self employed in IT Support, Specialising in the Linux Operating System. I've just setup my first fresh water tank (100 Litre Hexagonal), Everything so far is looking good so hopefully I can put some fish in next week. I Look forward to participating and learning heaps from every one here!
