thank you both for replying to me! I will put a fair bit more salt in the tank and go and take a pic and attempt to upload it. Well his fins are white anyway but they are looking kind of like cotton wool like the ends are ragged but some sort of look like cotton wool (perhaps cos ive been reading heaps of stuff on diseases and this one seems to be the closest I could find, however havent seen any pics of this disease so again not sure. Yeh the other angel kept jabbing at him hard out when they were together! I just wanted to give them a little time to see if they would get along. My mistake!!! His fins arent stumpy, just the one on the right side of his body isnt working very well. Like hardly at all. Sparodically. Im off to take a pic, thanks so much guys!!!

I think it might be cotton wool disease? Ive put him in a hospital tank (54 litres tall) and dosed that with 4 teaspoons of rocksalt. Does this sound okay? I know they recommend 4 teaspoons of salt per gallon but if it works out to be 11-14 gallons that seems like heaps and im scared. Please somebody reply!!!!

Please help. I bought an angel fish the other day, a gorgeous white pearlscale veiltail. So my female angel didnt take very kindly to it and was harrassing it left and right. I got home from work this arvo and my new angel was wedged in between the 2 pieces of driftwood in the tank and I had to move the wood to free him. Hes not looking the greatest. His fins are quite raggedy, the top fin and pelvic fin on the right side, also a part of his tail in the center I have removed him from the main tank and have him in my growout tank with other angels smaller than him. Now hes sort of just floating swimming around the top of the surface but he isnt gasping, just breathing quite slowly. Im scared he will die Hes so beautiful and I havent even had him a week..... What can I do? Is there any meds I can give him?

i never used to have either gravel or plants. Just bare bottom. In all honesty Im not really sure why I put them in. However it was still brown before I put them in, maybe I thought it might help lol? Anyhow Ive been outbid on the purifier so that flags that idea lol

hi, i was going to run it along side my regular filter (magic-jet filter). Its a grow out tank (about 15 small angels 20c size and 3 small discus 50c size) Its about 120litres, which is why i do biggish daily water changes. I also feed a small amount twice a day. Now therein lies the problem? But I thought that twice daily feedings for very young fish was the way to go to boost growth? Perhaps I do need to reduce that lol, thanks for your help!

aquarium purifier: hi, just wondering if these are worth it? Also is it likely to kill my plants or help them out a bit? One of my tanks seems to be just getting brown algae on the glass and on the stones and plants all the time. I do daily water changes and gravel vacuums but to no avail. My light is pretty crap in there, just a standard sunlight t8 18watt.

oh okay, I just floated her in a bag in the tank to give him some space, when i let her out again she just goes up to him almost like shes sniffing him lol, wierd, but now hes approaching her even though she was bullying the hell out of him. Guess I'll leave them to it. Ive seen it before, just feels a bit mean lol Man females are harsh!!! Thanks for all the help alan

yes thats what I was thinking, and yes, red eyes, my black female actually has red eyes as well Im not sure on the situation at the moment, she seems to be picking on it. Although she does do that with everyone, eventually she settles down and just gives in and lays lol. But I hate this I feel bad for the newbie

Just wanted to let the 'angel lovers' know that I did end up buying that pearl scale veil tail from bubble and squeak today! Fingers crossed its a male and likes my black female! :lol: Its not looking too bad at the moment, she is following it around and not attacking it like she does all the other angels I try to pair her with lol

I have another question, why is it some discus have black spots on their faces? Like they look a little sick, Ive seen many like this even in petshops yet other types of the same variety are stunningly pure and unblemished in their beauty? Just wondering what is up with that. Disease, old age or bad tank mates?

Man, I bought 2 gorgeous little discus today and I havent even had them for 3 hours and Im already obsessed and thinking about getting more!!! What a BEAUTIFUL fish. Ive never had them before but can already picture a massive tank filled with just them! Does anybody know of anyone in chch who breeds/sells discus? Im after some more turquoise blue babies, am hoping to get a pair that will eventually breed some day

yeh okay now youre rubbing it in!!!! lol, white diamonds, they are gorgeous!! Im planning on breeding some lace veils and maybe some blue rams when I can get enough tanks going lol. Already have 5 but its NOT ENOUGH!!

Hey Amazonian, once again thank you for answering my never ending questions. I only really became interested in Angels the start of this year and the informtion (genetics, mutations, doubles and halves etc) is OVERWHELMING. But I am doing my research and am stubborn so wont give up!!! The angels I got today are so beautiful, especially the marble lace veil. I have one breeding tank and 2 rearing tanks set up at present, also a spare 30gallon in the garage which Im planning to set up again once I find another pair I want to breed. I will continue reading more and more and I guess I'll just see how I go with breeding the veils. But thanks for all the info!!

Well I managed to get a hold of 3 black marble (90% black coverage) veil tails today. Im also planning on getting at least another 2 black marble veils and maybe a black (possibly a leopard or zebra?) veil tale next week. What Im wondering is.. If I manage to find a breeding pair from these 6 mostly black veils is there a change I will get a full black? What happens if you breed veils with normal angels? (that could be a no no I dont know?) Thanks for the help guys, my golden marbles laid another 100 or so eggs today... lol, what am I going to do with them all!!!

hi all, Im kind of at a crossroads at the moment regarding my angels. They are golden marble (possibly veil tail) and a golden crown type koi. they have bred and I have successfully raised 20 young so far. However, their doesnt seem to be much interest surrounding them so I cant seem to get rid of them!!! Ive heard blacks are the most sort after so am thinking about possibly getting rid of the ones I have and getting a black pair. Im not breeding soley to make money, rather to be able to keep my tanks (4 in total plus one 30gallon spare) running without having to worry so much about power costs! Im just after some advice really. Thanks!!

yeh Ive just been reading about them on google. Cant remember what they were with in the petshop though. Think a few small schooling fish like tetras.
