Thanks guys, used the kitchen sieve method took awhile to do it but it sure as beat the countless hours i spent trying to wash it through a bucket and tipping the water out :-? ... though i am going to build a stand with a make shift sieve on top, going to head to bunning's and try to see if i can find something similar to the kitchen sieve, or unless someone knows of something better?
how about making a wooden frame holding a piece of flyscreen material? that's a similar gauge to kitchen sieve and can be bought off the roll at most hardware stores

that Kapiti frog sure looks intermediate between the species to me, a real stump the experts one

so long as you have tank covers the robicans seem to be safe for fishies, or they are for mine. It's a much lower dose of pesticide than if you spray it yourself. You can site them strategically to keep flies out of your house without having them actually in or near the rooms with fish in them

got them from a bloke in Waiwhetu who was closing down his aviary. Only had the two
-
well done
I've got a few fry with mine now too
Shame more people don't keep them, they are such sweet fish

awww
hard to find down here
mind you a lot of birds are

I'm told its by behaviour. The one I have left was the more lively of the two and would jump around shouting "CHEEP!" periodically while the one that passed away was much more sedate and would do a far quieter series of "cheep-cheep-cheep-cheep"

I find the DVS we have fine but our heat pump you can't keep a tank near as it evaporates it really quick, even with a lid on

spider foot? the yellow things be pollen

I may well be paranoid from having worked in the wastewater industry although the Hutt River gets a lot of cyanobacteria blooms, which I want nothing to do with
-
that's what I figured, since we have moved them out of their natural geographical range. Would be interesting if someone did a genetic study, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of NZ frogs are hybrids

it would make a great wallpaper

I think your fish have indigestion...
-
yup unless of course someone is going for a drive in the appropriate direction and wants to earn some petrol money
-
I have been lead to believe there is some difference in the texture of the skin between the two species. I think it is L.raniformis which is bumpier although in a froglet this is probably of no use in identification
Just out of interest does anyone know if they hybridise?

some will still be living in the gravel at the bottom of the tank anyhoo

I clean my Hutt River sand by putting it in a bucket and blasting it hard with a hose to remove debris and mud and then I boil the clean sand in a big stock pot. There's a fair likelihood of there being pathogens in river sand so I say safety first. You never completely get all the fine silt out but it does settle. The main thing is to disinfect it

My little boy really needs a replacement girlfriend, I don't want him to pine away of loneliness now his beloved girl has passed away. Does anyone breed them or know of a breeder preferably in the Hutt Valley/ Wgtn area? Or I would be willing to go as far as say Levin or Wairarapa to pick up. I know there are lots of birdie people like me on here...

please stay inside in your fishroom between 11am and 4pm 8)

I saw them growing them at the marine lab in Island Bay once. They had these massive tubes full of green water to feed them, so I guess they like infusoria to eat.

if you are currently receiving a benefit of any sort you may be elegible for the WINZ "be your own boss" scheme. Training course, grant of $5000 for costs and $1000/month for 6 months, plus you can keep what you earn above that without losing the $1000/month. Nice.

I have a winebarrel lined with plastic, that makes a great starter pond. I think it's better than plastic for an aboveground pool as the wood insulates against it getting too hot or cold. I have one goldfish in it, whenever I try to put friends in for him he kills and eats them (even if they are bigger than him ), so I have come to the conclusion that "Hannibal" is a sociopath. A mini waterlily, an iris and lots of other waterplants such as lysimachia and oxyweed.
