  1. Surely you don't need the government to tell that you or your pets have no right to excrete all over other peoples property---that is just common sense.

If ever the ridiculous law is passed that cats are to be caged, which I sincerely doubt will, then I will adhere to such a law and become a "responsible" cat owner. The common sense would be for the gardeners to ALSO take responsibility since they are the ones that have the issue NOT the cat owners. Clearly that isn't going to happen.

  2. where can i buy the said items? not the small ones but those with good sizes.... ive seen some from local fish stores but theyre so expensive.. where can i find cheaper ones? i live in west auckland.. thanks!

Trade Me often has it as does the forum. I have been to a guy in Greenhithe who sells it and is happy with small purchases.

  3. That doesn't even make sense, people like you are the reason people like me do not like cats, what a crap attitude you have. You as a cat owner should be the one making sure your cat doesn't come into someone else's yard and if you do not you should be liable for the damages it causes.

How would you like it if I came into your yard and crapped all over your lawns etc. Oh that's right you would just put up some netting to deter me, yeah right!

I don't know why I am bothering so this will be the last post I make in this thread, guess I'll just put up and shut up about it.

Why blame cat owners for your way of thinking, surely you as an adult can make your own decision to like or dislike cats which isn't based on others thoughts? But apparently not. Perhaps suggest how one would control a cat since you asked this of me? As for you crapping on my lawn, I would not need to control you as I believe you would be arrested for indecent exposure....*gag*

  4. This whole thread is full of people who are sick of ignoring the problems associated with cat ownership and want something done about it. How does covering my garden with netting help solve the problem? That's just a temporary fix and a waste of time, also how would this help when they don't just defecate on my gardens but my lawns, daughters trampoline, concrete path and my bark covered gardens aswell, I suppose I should cover all of them with netting aswell?

Why bother? You can't be bothering to cover your garden why bother with those other things. Seems your complaining for nothing, put up or s**t up.

  5. Wow so many naive cat owners, that has to be one of the silliest things I have ever heard - covering my garden so your cat doesn't defecate in it. I wish I was your neighbor.

As for dogs roaming and digging up your garden etc. at least you have the law on your side as to dog control laws and their owners can get fined, this wouldn't happen with a cat owner which is completely unfair and morally wrong in my opinion.

Just for clarification I do not own a dog or a cat though I am a dog lover and will get one when I once again live in a house that has a suitable section to keep my animal contained as I am a responsible pet owner.

Silly or common sense? Seems like it's just far too hard for many? Why kick a stink when it's easily resolved? How can you help people who won't help themselves?? As for the roaming dogs, what good is a law when the "authorities" won't enforced them? The authorities have visited dog owners in my area several times a year and yet they still have the dog and they are still roaming. Go figure!!!

  6. Cats have a range of around 5 acres or so for domestic cats up to around hundreds of acres for feral cats. Stray/feral dog packs have home ranges getting up to 30,000 acres. For reference wolves can be up to around 3,000,000 acres

WOW!! Just as well domestic dogs (or cats) don't roam in packs, the SPCA would certainly have their job cut out for them. Although, the damage from a pack of dogs is far more intensive then a sole cat. :rolfl:

  7. Please explain your educated and professional methods that would work?

If you are not prepared to keep your feline friend locked up in either an enclosure or inside all the time you shouldn't have one, and don't complain when someone who is sick of your pet takes matters into their own hands and destroys them or harms them to keep them off their property. Why should a non cat owner have to deal with all the literal crap when they are supposed to be the owners responsibility?

Also I am not saying all cat owners are irresponsible, just the majority of them.

Methods such as sterilization/population control, collars with bells, geographical isolation e.g. islands just to name a few. Why should people lock animals (cats or dogs) inside all day to suit people, with no tolerance? Lets lock those people inside and see how they "deal" with it? Not very well I can imagine? My question is then why should a non dog owner, who has cats or not, have to put up with dogs doing the same thing or worse? What it comes down to is Cats VS Dogs. Some people like dogs and some cats, some both and some neither. Lucky for them all they have the SPCA and other organizations.

  8. Exactly, our argument is there should be the same damn laws for cats and their irresponsible owners.

Don't generalize, not ALL cat/pet owners are irresponsible. How one would enforce/control this? A fence/enclosure? Electric barrier? Either way, it's a complicated task, it doesn't help that cats naturally have a very large territory. I feel that killing is the easy way out and doesn't actually "fix" the problem in the long term...look at the dreaded RCD. After all the killings and burning the disease is still present. There are more educated/professional methods to be used.
