  1. Sh*thouse Time for a new heater maybe? I would've thought 300w (which came with the tank) would've been fine for the tank size. Perhaps its crapped itself?
  2. Another question (sorry ppl) I'm finding that the heater, even at its lowest setting, is making the water about 29deg - 31deg This a problem?
  3. Awesome... brain going mental with ideas now.... must have patience! LOL Ahhh thats sooo cool!!! Would anyone recommend having the nanostreams at the back of the tank facing outwards? or nearer the front of the tank facing inwards?
  4. a cove setup? sounds cool! haha
  5. I got a 6025 and 6045. The 6045 was quiet when it went in but within 10 minutes was buzzing like the 6025. Theres nothing blocking them so I'm guessing its just waiting for them to settle? Also, whats the best way to position these. Keep in mind i've got a corner tank Cheers
  6. Smart Looking is what I meant U know, doesn't look big and ugly like the oldschool Seio M1100 I had in there. Still need to find out bout that noise tho, can anyone help?
  7. Thanks Wasp, I do know the basics from keeping Freshwater tropicals. Its actually a step that I think needs to be taken before anyone attempts marine as its definatly taught me alot of things, patience being one of them! I'm keen to do this right, hence the upgrading of all the gear that came with the tank lol. Speaking of the gear, my nanos are a bit noisey, but I vaguely remember reading on these forums that this is normal and after the first week they should quiet down? I'm stoked with them, they make the tank look very smart and add plenty of movement! Might have to look at getting some webspace so I can post links to some pics of the progress
  8. Well, tank is setup, salt water, filtration and nanos, any reason why I shouldn't just put the rock into the tank to do its thing? Still waiting on the skimmer, should I wait til then to put the rock in?
  9. Haha yep, mmm Nano Streams
  10. Can anyone recommend the best way to cycle dry rock? Someone had suggested a big container filled with water to sit them in and do a 25% water change everyday (freshwater). Was just concerned with the accuracy of the above statement. It came from a very very reliable source with years of experience in reefs & marine fish but I'm just wondering if maybe i've heard him say something he didn't mean? (Or misinterpreted it). Next time I see him i'll ask to clarify unless someone can confirm. Are there other methods, perhaps quicker methods? Not trying to rush anything, but u people know how it is. Just keen to get to the next step, or see something happen so I know I'm making progress P.s, Nano Streams for the tank now
  11. Reminds me of Vanuatu, if I ever go back, i'll definatly invest in an underwater digicam! Awesome shots!
  12. Have noticed the plastic sheath over the wires has split aswel. Might be time for a new one
  13. Have checked, looks fine to me
  14. Oh! hahah didn't realise How was ur coke? BTW, one of the powerheads I got with the tank is fairly noisey. Have had it apart and can't find anything wrong with it. Its circulating water at the mo, but will want another one if I can't silence it. Any tricks to these things? Unsure of the brand but it looks Atman almost
  15. Had a good chat to John this morning, he helped me with HEAPS.
  16. So back to a different topic, I've purchased some dry base rock and setup a 90L container in the garage with Reef Salt, Heater and Power Head. Today i'm going to pickup some live wetrock to put in there to give it a kick start. Question is, will it upset the process if I decide to move the rock into the main tank before its fully cured? I am assuming that new water and sand needs to do its wee bit of curing aswel? Also, should I pop some of the filter media in with the curing rock? Will it gain the beneficial bacteria this way?
  17. Lol Shano! Ur skimmer is still an option but its still early days for me. I did see ur one in the shop for $790 so I know its a good deal Cheers for your input reef
  18. I had a chat to John at Organism about the Deltec skimmers today. He said the MCE300 would be fine for my tank, but the MCE600 would be much better if I wanted to spend more money. He also said the Red Sea skimmers are nothing special. Can anyone help me with the decision? On one hand I like the idea of only spending $400 and getting the MCE300, but on the other hand, if the MCE600 is going to be sooo much better, I'm quite happy to make the $800 odd investment (but is it double the price better?) I know bigger is better, but I dont wanna be forking out extra if I dont need to be
  19. Nah no sump. Still making the decision as that but likelyhood will be the hang on option. Can anyone recommend a good but reasonably priced skimmer? Or the one which is the best if thats poss?
  20. Tank is 350 litres. Did come with a skimmer but its got a split in it aparently, so its probably useless
  21. Wow thats awesome! Sparked my interest again in maybe getting a sump
  22. Ur bang on there Wasp Can anyone let me know if the Red Sea Prizm pro delux skimmer is any good? I've found some good reviews on it and I've been offered it for $350 (2nd hand). As I'm still deciding on the sump setup, it looks as tho it can be hung or submerged so I've still got my options. Cheers
  23. Ahhhhhh! Makes sense now, I was definatly thinking along the right track Yep i've been into organism, bought all my fish from there. I find John real good to deal with. I'll prob pop in there in the weekend for a wee nosey So its quite common to put lots of smaller bits of rock in rather than just 1 big piece?
  24. "dry live rock would be dead. otherwise known as Base Rock. using it will make the cycle longer and you'll need to start the cycle with something" Ok i'm a little confused now (Sorry, i'm a real n00b at this). As far as I knew, my only option was to buy BASE rock and go from there by introducing bacteria via the means of sea water/rockpool rocks etc UNLESS I can find someone selling pre cycled rock (straight out of a tank etc) Is this still the case? Sorry I must be getting annoying by now?
  25. So even if its dry live rock, its possible that organisms can still be alive and begin to grown once the rock is in a suitable environment? Uhhh the look of some of those things gives me the heebie jeebies hahaha and the people at work who happened to see think that the "hairy crab" is the funniest thing they've seen in a while
