  1. Great thanks both of you, i'll give both recipes ago and see what I end up with! Is it best to use cooked or uncooked shrimp?
  2. Awesome Thanks Ryan, i'll give it a go today as I think I have those ingredients
  3. Hi there, I have a tank of central american type cichlids and a mixed african tank. I seem to be going through the food like theres no tomorrow!! I've been feeding a mixture of flake, cichlid pellets & granules, algae/spirulina tabs & other complete sinking tabs & cichlid sticks, frozen fish food from wet pets and occasionally cooked peas, frozen shrimp, frozen brine shrimp & very occasionally frozen bloodworms. Does anyone know any homemade recipes that I could make up? I have tried but they don't like it & it messes up the water, also what sort of veges etc will they eat? Lastly I assume it's better to but pre made food in bulk or from trade me? Any advice, ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Cheers Sarah
  4. That would be cool Just seems to be sitting there and kinda chasing any other fish away, I've just put him in the tank temporarily as we've just moved and am setting up his other tank with sand, he's currently in a tank with gravel and haven't seen him moving anything, he's not eating which is very out of character as he's greedy as normally.
  5. Cool thanks, I thought so, just the male is guarding a cave, any ideas why? Doesn't look sick and I hope he isn't!
  6. Does anyone know who cares for the eggs etc with Maylandi Afra's?? Any advice would be great. Cheers
  7. Same here Thanks everyone for the advice etc I didn't think they grew much over 30 cm either, I think one of each sounds best, I'd love to breed them but I've read they have alot of babies so would want to make sure there's a market for them! aswell as having the room. Will start off with the 300l and see how we go from there, was mainly checking if they required the same water conditions etc as each other which I think would be rather similar.
  8. lol I am well bitten by the african bug! I have the 400l 5 ft tank set up with lots of africans mainly all yours! They are very happy and awesome to watch, I got another tank the other day quite cheap and have always wanted a couple of oscars and a jack and no I would not mix them with the africans lol Thanks for all the advice, very helpful, I think i'll get a couple of babies and see how we go
  9. Cool We used to have a couple as kids, no idea of the tank size, was large, all I remember is finding the largest one with half a catfish sticking out of it's mouth and stuck! It was a big cat fish too, they are cool fish though. Yep the bigger the better with tanks
  10. Ok thanks for the advice, even if they are just babies? Would probably upgrade to at least a 500l+ tank within the near future
  11. Hi there, I'm looking at setting up a 4 ft 300l tank in about a month and quite keen on both Jack dempsey's & Oscars. Can they go together? 1 of each? Or is 2 of each ok? Have read mixed reviews on both and wouldn't mind some advice from the pro's Would get them as babies or young and upgrade to a larger tank down the track. Otherwise any other tank mate suggestions? Cheers

    Tufa Rock?

Hi thanks for that Checked the pH last night and finally it was where I want it! lol, I had a tiny bit of wood in the tank so maybe that had been the problem. I was also wanting to add lots of rocks for hiding places etc but find that the limestone is really heavy which was why I thought tufa sounded good, but i've added some pumice which seems ok and is light Cheers

    Tufa rock?

Hi thanks, i'm not sure, just going off what I've read which was just called tufa rock, could be completely wrong though!

    Tufa rock?

Not sure if this is the right place to post but I am trying to raise the pH in my tank, have heard tufa rock is good for this & light, anyone know where you can get it from? Have also been using limestone, oyster shell, coral sand, our tap water is very acidic which doesn't help! Any advice appreciated.

  16. Cool-sounds good, i'll do some more research into an african set up. I should pm you instead as this isn't that related but my name on TM is rangeview, I asked about your electric yellows FS, would be keen to get some if they would all be suitable together? I haven't actually bought the lionheads yet and they are only young also. My ph is about 7.5 at the moment though. What are your thoughts on them being suitable? Also prob couldn't pick up until the weekend. Cheers
  17. Hey Paul, Well either way that's great to hear, hope they keep breeding well. Sarah
  18. Hey Paul, Congrats, were these the pair I sold you? If so that's awesome and glad they've been happy enough to breed as they didn't for me!lol Sarah
  19. Cool, that would be good if they would go together as the kissers are quite cool, do you know if they'd go ok with angels & what other cichlids?the tanks looking rather empty but I don't want to have too many either, a bit of colour or character fish would be good, thanks for your reply.
  20. Hi, I'm thinking of changing my 5 ft tank to a cichlid set up & quite keen to get some Lionhead/lumphead cichlids, anyone know what they would go well with, any other info on setting up etc? I currently have kissing gouramies, a red tail shark, bristlenose & corys which if not suitable would have to think again or sell them. Cheers
  21. Great thanks, yeah I think 28 is prob too high
  22. Hi there, Can Aphyosemion striatum be suited in a 28 degree (ish) discus set up? Or would that cook them?? I currently keep them at about 25 in a community tank, also same for P 82's? THanks

    Panduros

    Great thanks for that.

    Panduros

Hi, Any idea what a pair of Panduros are worth? thanks
  25. Hi, Thanks for your replies. Yes I agree with both statements, they could well be very sensitive to high nitrates and will also buy a test kit that covers, ph, gh & kh and test the water, we used to be on spring water at the old place and never had any deaths, this fish keeping is a complicated business! lol
