Ok, thanks, where do I get it from?
-
Hi, My oscar looked the other day like it had scraped itself and now the area has white fluffy stuff all over it, I've put it in a seperate tank & used stuff called 'tonic' from LFS which says a general cure for fungus infections, it also has methtylene blue in it. Have added stess coat & some stress zyme, also added tonic salt & have done a water change. He's improved in the fact that he's now swimming slowly around as he was justsittiing at the bottom of thetank, but the growth hasn't cleared up at all, what else can I do? Have followed instructions for the 'tonic' and used it all up. I did also use mela fix but have run out.

Thanks Yeah I'm addicted, I'm meant to be cutting down my numbers not increasing lol, ashame that I moved the mum too early but like you said all a learning curve. Hopefully the few I got will make it, can't even find them now! Guess they are hiding out somewhere
-
Was just moving my small holding tank into another room and found lots of baby Melanochromis auratus's, I had thought she was holding but then she didn't seem like she was, so unfortunately i'd put her back in the main tank so I don't know if they're meant to protect the babies for awhile? These are very tiny so most likely just released when I started draining the tank! I hate to think how many I sucked up the other day doing a gravel clean! Anyway I've only managed to catch and find 6 and move them to another tank so who knows how many more there were, still it's cool that they were happy enough to breed
-
I agree, probably why it seems reasonably priced..will look round a bit longer first
-
Cool sounds good, just expensive lol but hopefully they'll last awhile and yeah they are messy fish!! Also thinking 2 300w heaters for the 500l and 3 for the 900??
-
Sorry this topic has probably been done to death! I have a 500litre tank & looking at buying a 900litre tank also. Was thinking of getting a 2400lph cannister filter for $210 that apparently does 800l for the 900l tank & something like a 1500lph one for the 500l tank or something similar, also will have an internal filter & air pump, possibly undergravel too. Or what other options would be best? Sump etc. I don't know much about them. Just after some advice? Prob be oscars, jack dempseys and a couple of others in the 500l and a big pacu in the 900l, thereabouts. cheers

Fair comments.. I am looking out for second hand also if anyone has a big, not too expensive tank to rehome Kicking myself that I didn't buy the big tank from wet pets $200!
-
thanks for all the comments I might make some enquiries locally and see what happens, I agree re the scratching, just thinking if it is lighter and cheaper I'm not hugely worried about scratches just after a big tank for a few big fish
-
Is this the right place to post? Anyone know much about them? cost, makers, pros & cons? Wanting a big tank made but they aren't cheap
-
Cool, Yeah I'm hoping it's 40 which I'm sure is ok, very hard to tell the difference between 40 and 80+. Still they all look happy so far so we'll see how things go and still do another water change in a couple of days oh yay lol Thanks
-
So I've just done around a 50% water change and nitrate is still high at least 40+, hard to tell! Any other ideas? nitra zorb? No plants in the tank. I guess i'll do another big change in a couple of days, just ashame i'm adding nitrate back in the tank with each water change, feels like a losing battle!lol
-
Yeah, I've always been the same on either rain or spring but have had to move home temporarily and it's not good having the tanks here!!lol
-
Ok cool, I might do a larger change and get the nitrates right down, the hardest part is I can't use tap water so am using bore water from the hose and adding kettle water (mixed with cold so not boiling)to try and keep the heat up, so it's hard to change too much without freezing the tank and fish..
-
Um, I guess 25% thereabouts..
-
Hi there, I think they're around 80-160, so very high. I've looked under as many rocks etc as I can and can't find a corpse. The nitrates have been creeping up for awhile, I do weekly water changes.
-
Hi there, I'm having some nitate issues. I've recently sold a few fish so wouldn't say my tanks too overstocked. It's a 430l african cichlid tank, just tested the water from the hose and tap which I use for water changes and nitrate is around 5-10. So if I'm adding nitrate each time I do a water change how am I going to lower nitrate levels in the tank? I guess being such a low amount of nitrate it should gradually lower in the tank. Any other ideas? I feed once a day, however have recently been feeding home made fish food aswell which is fairly messy. I've just had one fish go missing and another that looks sick and have just put it in a different tank, I haven't lost any in this tank for 6 months to a year and don't want to lose more.

Cool sounds good, yeah need to find some larger pellets, what sort of veges, meat can they have does anyone know?
-
Hi there, I have too young albino oscars, I'm semi new to oscars, we had some when I was a kid. I'm currently feeding: Flake & floating pellets, cichlid pellets,algae/spirulina tablets,a frozen mix of peas/shrimp. They are always hungry (I know that's an oscar thing) but just wondering what other foods I can give ie vegetables and meat? Any advice/ideas would be great, have done an internet search but advice is so mixed. Cheers
-
Yeah fair comment ryan, pretty slack of me lol just figured as they are still fairly young that they wouldn't start breeding for awhile and that I had time to set up more tanks! Will start looking out for some cheap breeding tanks. Will see how she goes with the bristles and she'd better not kill any lol as the LFS has promised to buy the baby bristles for a decent price once they're an inch long

Hey Guys, Thanks heaps for the advice, info & link very helpful Um, I have 7 youngish electric yellows, 2 adult male peacocks, a mixture of young maleri gold peacocks, blue dolphins & marble peacocks which I would think are too small to breed anyway, a male leleupi, a male & 2 female Maylandi Afra's, a male kenyi. Think that's it lol I did just buy a breeding pair of Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos (if that's what they're called?) from tinytawny, have only had them since last friday. And I also have a male frontosa in with them whom I might look at rehoming so that he can be with other fronts, though he seems happy enough I feel mean! The male & female auratus were hanging out together in the corner and he was keeping anything else away, so figured he's the dad. I guess i'll just keep an eye on her for now, I'm not too keen on stripping her, but will try it if she get's too skinny, would it be ok to put her in a tank with bristlenoses and there babies and leave her to it? That's the only spare tank I have, it's about 80-100litres. Anyway it's exciting and thanks again

Hi there, Quite new to the cichlid breeding side of things, I think my Auratus might be holding, do I have to do anything at this stage ie remove her, or wait a few weeks? Shes in a mixed african 430litre tank (fairly crowded), obviously later on the babies would get eaten pretty quick if I didn't move her/strip her. Can anyone please let me know how it all works and any advice for a newbie cheers

Sweet lets hope I've got a good blender somewhere!
