  2. Yea Seem to hide a lot I have put them in temp tank until new setup is up and running Hope once they are settled in there new home they will spend more time in the open A neat looking syno who knows maybe a few years from now I will be able to get youngings fingers crossed
  3. I got my 4 cost me $85 each at about 60mm long but yea the real deal
  4. Hey here is its dad http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news ... hoto2.html
  5. Hi boi I got 2 of these for cycling my tank before adding my frontosas thinking maybe I can leave them in there with my fronts but found them quite territorial aggressive towards the fronts so got rid of them back to the shop Maybe I just had 2 nasty ones who knows Suggestion only / Be very careful with the fish you chose to put in with the fronts they are quite laid back fish compared to some of the other tang cichlids I now have 2 altolamprologus comprececeps with my Fronts neat fish hard to get but seem to be very compatible they are quite small but stand there ground with the larger fronts defensive only. And I’m sure others here have suggestions in regards to other fish Anyway good luck with your setup
  6. Hi AW you’re right Just doing some research and came across this The 4 synodontis multi have not shown there faces since being put in the tank They seem to like caves more than my cichlids Maybe it will take them a little time to get used to there new home I’m feeding them at night and nothing seems to be left by the morning so probably all is ok thought it best to give them abit of time without interfering but will check on them in a few days
  7. http://www.xdeleon.com/vatoelvis/videos ... awning.wmv It's a rather big file hope this works looks like the action takes place in aquarium

  10. Thanks for all the info guys From what I have read Synodontis multipunctatus doesn’t get terribly big so I’m hoping more are brought in and are the right ones this time Will just have to wait and see What about Synodontis Decorus adult size are they available here and suitable in tang tank Aw I have PMed you
  11. Thanks African The picture of Syno Nyassa looks right to me I’d love to get hold of the cuckoo but hard to find and when they are here obviously get sold quickly Can you recommend any nice cats suitable for tang setup? That don’t get to big
  12. HW in Albany has what they say are Cuckoo Synodontis for sale I would be interested in these for my tang tank but they don’t look right to me To dark in colour but maybe I’m wrong Anyone seen these and can identify them? They have been for sale for awhile now Also can anyone recommend a good synodontis available here that gets not to big? And is ideal for a Tanganyika setup Thanks

    cicadas

I used to feed my malawis circadas every summer they loved them The tank used to erupt water everywhere Didn’t do them any harm at all Free live food at your doorstep
  15. The cost isn't an issue as I have a few friends in the glass industry So can get the glass at a good price I used to be a glazier probably 7 years ago now was in the glass industry for 20 years so have used toughened glass for many applications but never for a fish tank. A little bit apprehensive as I know sometimes it can shatter without warning and any apparent reason Just interested to see if anyone has used it and how well the glass stayed together Seems to me cheaper option 12mm annealed is the way to go Thanks for all your feedback
  16. Hey thanks for the feed back Looks like 12mm annealed is the way to go with good bracing Still has anyone out there used toughened glass and had it explode on them? What a disaster that would be for fish and house
  17. Can someone give me good advice? Has anyone here used toughened glass before and had problems I’m planning a tank 1800x700x700 and have a few options on type of glass to use Either 12mm annealed or 10 or 12 mm toughened I’m building this tank to sit in tank stand so bottom of tank will be fully supported I have built large tanks for myself in the past but not as wide and high as this one out of annealed Anyway that’s why I’m thinking about using toughened glass I also realize that toughened is about 5 times stronger than annealed on the faces but can shatter with just a tap to its edge Thinking should I go for toughened of using alum protective corner extrusion to protect all the edges Bottom glass panel is going to be drilled with holes for sump and filter inlets and outlets So any feed back much appreciated
  18. Thanks for that Yes after Prof Made stand and hood maybe someone closer to Auckland Still i will give them a call once I find there Ph no
  19. Hi Anyone here had Big Wooden tank stands and hoods made for them Who does These any help please its For Tank 1500x700x700 If you have how did they turn out Aprox cost PM me Thanks
  20. Hi Shell They seem to go from light to dark and dark to light depending on mood Quite entertaining The Alha male in my lot seems light in colour more often than dark Is this a dominance aggressive change? They all seem happy chappies getting on well with each other I also notice this colour change when doing water changers they go from dark to light almost instantly Quite amazing to watch Anyone else seen this happen?
  21. Hi all I feed mine a mix of tetra colour bits and spirulina flake This I first mix in a cup adding some tank water letting sit for a minute so that food sinks when put in tank. Also feed my Fronts live Daphnia which they love (high in protein) Great exercise for them also chasing food around the tank And cichlid tucker chunky frozen same process in cup with some tank water Feeding them something different at each feed time Fronts are growing very fast so diet must be okay
