  2. Sittting in my lazy boy recovering after a hard night i noticed my daughters clown fish acting strange. on a closer look we have all been watching in amazement her clowns laying eggs. What an amazing sight. However my goby is not allowed of the rock he is hiding in quite close to there nest sight and the bangai cardinal along with my wifes regal tang are banished to the end of the tank. This is all going on in a ar620. It would be nice if we could raise some babies all and any suggestions welcome as we dont now what is needed to raise them provided the hatch. So all help appreciated and thanks in advance.

hi has anyone got an operating manual i was given one but would like a manual so as i know how to tune it e.t.c it didnt come with a manual and the person who gave it to me doesnt know as he bought the tank e.t.c for tropicals and is not a marine man. All help will be greatly appreciated.
  4. we are all guilty of trying to get something cheaper if we can (Laws of supply and demand) and thats how i got my bta if somebody doesnt want somethig wheres the harm in passing it on to some one who does.

    BTA

sounds like you could turn them of then if it were me i wouls still put a sponge over the intakes and leave them going
  6. looks good the blue hue will disapear or rather it wont be as blue when you add your white lights. Cleanup crew depends on what you intend on keeping. but again looks good.

    BTA

i wouldnt as this is what helps to oxygenate your water and also you if they are hooked up to your filter i beleive it could be dangerous for your bacteria. If it was me i would put a sponge over the intake of the powerheads.
  8. 29.9 is the highest my temp has been i have turned the heater down to 22 which seems at this stage to be keeping it around 27 im going to set up a computor fan or two but was wonderin how you hook these up to the mains.

    live rock question

In my experince you would be very lucky to rear baby seahorses much past a week as there is certin food they feed at certain times if you find out what good luck. As far as the shrimps go catch small ones as if your seahorses get hungry enough and decide to take on a large shrimp. This can get stuck in there mouth and result in death. So my experince is catch the smaller ones which they will eat as well it just means more trips to the rock pools. But they are cool .

    Whats Happened

Hi i have a ar620 tank with a bicolour blenny a blue tang one cardinal and two clowns. I have just noticed this morning when feeding them that one of the clowns has what looks like a wound (fresh) behind one of its pectral fins he still seems quite happy. It is red in colouration. I now my ph is out as my daughter over feed them while i was in Auckland so i have mixed up enough wter to do a quater water change to ease the ph but now that i have what appears to be a wound on my clown i am unsure if doing a gravel clean and water change is the right thing to do. All thoughts and comments welcome.
  12. again Merry Christmas and a happy new year to one and all
  13. All i can say is that i use instant ocean and i have never had any problems. I do mix it a day in advance and i throw in a air stone and a heater. In saying that i have had to do a emergency water change where i added a dechloriator to speed things up to now detrament. ( sorry if spelling is of.)
  14. there are obviously pros and cons to both sides and it comes down to personal prefernce. However the thing that concerns me most is parasites of any kind bearing in mind how warm rock pools get in summer and theres plenty of living organisims in these. And to awnser a question earlier i know a local marine breeder and all he uses is asw as he puts it to him its just not worth the risk. But as in all hobbies there are different veiw points and opinions so at the end of the day we all go with what feels right.
  15. sorry if it sounded like i was nocking nsw not my intention at all i just prefer asw
  16. i use asw and im close to the beach (5min) i do this for a couple of reasons as i dont want saltwater driiping thru my vehicle its Quick and easy to make and you now exactly whats going into your tank. And if you have to do a Quick water change for whatever reason its there you dont have to worry about tides and when they fit in around work e.t.c I generally find it less hassle and once youve made it up a few times you get a good idea of how much fits into x amount of water. Generally i find it to be less of a hassle and the main reason is live stock isnt exactly cheep and i would be gutted to add nsw and found i may have introduced a parasite. ( Im overly catuious but id rather that than lose live stock.) But at he end of the day if your more comfortable using nsw use that i beleive it comes down to personal prefernce.

    Got crabs

    impresive and well caught
  18. Chimera it would be good to have anothor marine man down here in Tauranga by the way we are surronded by coast.
  19. ditoo to the above i have also moved our marine aquarim keep all the water you can make the tank the last to be shifted and the first to be un packed and you should be fine.
  20. Hi i dont now why you guys wont to bash brookfield pets. I have found the new owner to be very pleasnt and acomodating and will gladly source stock of any kind and he is always willing to do a deal. I do shop there regulary however but again this is due to willingness to help. Unlike the previous owner i stopped going. But yeah well worth a look.
  21. i just saw the last of mine disapearing but we are running small ecosystems with a food chain. Unfortantly these things happen (natural selection and all). I agree at least it allows for a change but deep down no one likes losing any livestock in such away.
  22. my bta that i got from chimera promptly ate one of my bangai cardinals. My remaining one flirts with danger with it to but as yet has not been digested.
