Hi, I have four blue gourami's, one gold gourami and a whole lot of tetras in my tank. Two of the blues are looking very sick, They are breathing but are hanging around the bottom and not moving at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or will I wake tomorrow and find them dead? I have checked the ammonia and nitrites and they are fine and the PH was 7.2 which is a bit higher than normal but I have put in some PH down. Any help or suggestions would be welcomed.

Hi, How long can fish go without being fed? I having been trying to get my ammonia levels down with water changes and not feeding thw fish. The ammonia has finally been zero for a day but the fish haven't had any food for about 6 days. Should I give them a little bit of food now or wait another day. Also is there such a thing as good and bad algae? I have had the tank now for about 3 weeks and there is algae growing on the rocks and on some plants. I have attached a photo of the algae and a couple of the tank for those are interested. Any comments welcome :lol:

Hi, A am having a few problems with the ammonia in my new tank, it has been up to .5ppm but is coming down (now .25ppm) after a couple water changes and no feeding the fish for a couple of days. I have been using the flourish plant food once or twice or week while the ammonia was zero. Should I continue using the flourish while the ammonia is present or should I wait until it is zero again. Thanks

I have got a reasonably heavy planted tank so it didnt seem to matter where I put the siphon it was distrubing the vegatation.

I took my "aggressive" gold back to the shop today and they tested my water for me and the ammonia was a little high (somewhere between .25 and .50) so they recommended I do a 50% water change which I did. My question is how do you use the gravel cleaner device to change the water without disturbing the plants and their roots? Do you have to replant the plants after each water change?

I have only got two golds, I replaced the orginal aggressive one and the dead one with two new ones but have wound up with another aggressive one. I have got one of each sex, and they are apparently (according the LFS) small, just slightly bigger than the dwarf's

Thanks for the replies. Whats with the gold (I realised they are gold not yellow) gouramis. I got two on Saturday with 4 dwarf blue's and on Monday night one of the golds (apparently the female) killed the other gold one. So on Tuesday the shop kindly replaced the killer with two new ones and today the neons got killed and the aggresive one was chasing the other one around the tank but it is leaving the blues alone. Are the golds just rather aggresive or have I been unlucky? Should I give up with the golds? and just stick with the blues?

Hi, I have a aggresive yellow gourami that has killed a couple of neon tetra's and is attacking the other yellow gourami that I have and I want to remove it from the tank overnight until I can get to the shop tomorrow morning to replace it. I only have the one tank which is a couple of weeks old so I can't put it in another tank. Whats the best thing to do with it so it survives the night but doesn't kill any more fish. Thanks Chris

Thanks I have been following the cycling guide in a book I bought and have been testing the ammonia and nitrite levels to make sure these haven't risen.

Hi, I am very new to this!! I bought a AR620 (62cm X 38 X 53 90L) a couple of weeks ago and I have read and heard lots of different things about how many fish can go in it and am getting very confused. We intially put 20 neon tetras in on the advice of the shop we bought the tank from and then we added 2 gold gouramis and 4 blue dwarf gourami also on the advice of the fish shop. How many other fish could I add and what types? Thanks
