  1.     LMAO You're a legend What was the bet or shouldn't we ask
  2. Dude, I so hope she don't read this site or you're a dead man!!!
  3. Hey RyanJury Nice offer mate. Particularly since you got such a good deal. and TimTam - good on you for sticking to it too Ah, there are still decent people left in the world - makes me feel all fuzzy coming into Christmas
  4. Yip, I second what Helifax said - excellent reference
  5. Geez Shawn, that looks awesome. The growth is unreal since I saw it in July. Are you feeding them some under the counter illegal substances that make them run faster, jump higher and grow quicker Truly stunning mate. you are putting the pressure on for the baby sitting role when you sell your house. I'll blame the move if they suffer
  6. Here be mine as of tonight Full tank shot left hand end right hand end I have the same issues as a few others with the bow front making the pics a bit difficult to get decent, particularly with the overall shot. Puttputt, recognise the xenia in the last pic Bit bigger now.
  7. Its cool eh Always had problems keeping my anenome's alive and my current one looked very sad in July. It has gone nuts and I now have three of them, all lined up together (haven't bothered trying to move them). My clowns are very happy, especially the male as he couldn't fit in the single one when mum clown was in it. Now he has his own one
  8. Have you got an anenome? The first pair of clowns that I had used to sleep like what you are describing. They didn't have an anenome and every night they used to go up near the surface and basically bob up and down. Used to worry me for a bit until I decided they were happy enough and thats where they decided to sleep. The clowns I have now sleep in their anenomes. Keep an eye on her but I wouldn't worry too much about it.
  9. Hi Raven (and Scuba Sam) Great to see more of the Taniwha on this site Raven, you are obviously into the fresh water fishies, Sam, whats your poison? I'm a reefer up in Kerikeri. The only one that I am aware of although someone on this site is moving up here when he sells his house in Auck. Welcome to the site - you'll find it of enormous value - there are some folks on here that know an awful lot about fish (of all sorts) and are more than willing to help out Cheers Skippy
  10. The one I had seemed to like all sort of stuff - including mysis
  11. Hey one thing about what Drifty suggested re the 80 litre bins. Just remember that 80 litre bins full of water are gonna be bloody heavy!. If you are seriously into fishies, invest in some 20 litre carboys (square plastic containers, strong as, and have a screw top cap). You wont regret them. Skippy
  12. Pies You should come a bit further up to Kerikeri for a day trip from Tute's. I'll even liven up your coffee with a little something if you want Or even just forget the coffee part Skippy
  13. Chim, You should come to Kerikeri I reckon it is NZ's fastest growing town - something like 18% growth I think I read somewhere. And we are getting a absolute explosion in reefkeeping up here. The day that Puttputt moves up it will have increased by 100% (in a day ) Extrordinary! Need to open a fish shop soon - any takers? Jetski, how about a KK branch!    Puttputt, congrats on the 1000 club
  14. Living in Kerikeri and buying fish in (mainly) Auckland means that they spend at least 4 hours in a plastic bag in a poly box. Haven't lost anything in transit yet. When I moved from Auckland they spent at least 8 hours in bags by the time in put them in there, dismantled the tank, travelled, reassmbled and got the tank running and got them back in the water. Actually it was probably closer to 10 hours. If you think about it, they spend a lot of time in bags, etc when they are imported. Two hours will be no sweat - even without the filter and heater (again temperature at the moment means you probably don't even need the heater)

    Software ?

There is a few packages out there - Reefcon is one that is a free download. Not sure of a link but if you google it should come up I have set up my own one in MS Excel that graphs my water parameters. Have started logging my activities (water changes, bulb changes, etc) but it is pretty basic. You're welcome to a copy if you want it. PM me an email address and I'll send it to you. One day I might start creating an MS Access database for my tank. Just have to find the time. Some of the people on here probably have some fairly high tech database/activity logging systems given their interest in techno stuff Cheers Skippy
  16. Hey Talula JDM and Bubbles are bang on with their advice. I moved a 170 litre reef tank from Howick to Kerikeri, then again in Kerikeri and then moved my new 370 litre tank in Kerikeri to my house once it was built. Keep as much water as you can, say 60% of it. Top up the rest with new water (enforced water change). My rock I put into poly boxes, and covered with a few layers of newspaper wetted down with tank water. Fish into bags. Left the sand in bottom of the tank with about 1/2 inch of water in the bottom. Not convinced about the idea of keeping a heater in the bucket with the rock. At this time of year the temp drop shouldn't be too bad and you risk smashing your heater! Cant recall if you mentioned your filter or whether you have a sump. If it is a canister filter, keep the water in it. Also mind your fish dont hide in holes in the rock as you take it out. They are quite good at doing that - particularly blennies. Check each bit carefully as you take it out as it is a pain once you have removed about 35kg of rock and have a fish missing! Then you have to go through it all again in a hurry. If you are lucky the fish will fall out of its hole in time for you to put it back in some water :-? What Bubbles said about the time is dead right. My last move I moved my whole house on the Saturday in daylight hours and moved my tank on the Sunday 7.00am to 11.00pm by the time I finished and had everyone swimming around:o Last bit of advice - dedicate time in the move just for the tank. ie move the tank last of all. Just make sure you leave a space free of boxes in the new house for the tank. Good luck and let us know how it goes Cheers Skippy

    New Fishie!

Krama wrote: Yes he is - I asked him! He does look quite blue under the right lighting though and a bluey grey under the full lights. My daughter finally noticed him swimming around in the tank and proclaimed "woahhh, he's cool" He has been moved way up to the top of the "favourite fish" tree

    New Fishie!

This one is getting quite friendly already. Still a bit camera shy though. Give him a couple more days and I reckon he will be the same.

    New Fishie!

Went to Auckland for a course (that I found out half an hour before it was meant to start that they cancelled it 3 weeks ago ) Would have been nice if they let us know about it  One of my colleagues flew down from Kerikeri this morning to go to it - he was not impressed. One good thing was that I was able to get myself a new fish :bounce: Got a Naso tang from HFF in Albany (sorry Krama!). Seems to have settled in nicely, although my yellow tang got a bit stroppy for a bit doing the big reversing thing for a while and trying to poke him with his spines. All good now though. Some pikkies of him in my tank a few minutes ago:- (sorry they are a bit fuzzy but he wont keep still) And one of my clowns playing in their anenomes (they split again so I now have three of them) :bounce: (Anenome split - not the clowns ) Also just picked up my flasher wrasse off the carpet Was looking out the window near the tank and heard something drop on the floor. Looked down and there he was Back in the tank and swimming around. I think he got a hurry up from my anthias who has suddenly got all stroppy in the past few weeks - even bailing up mum clown a few times. Anyone else had problems with stroppy anthias? He is on his own as the female got eaten by my elephant ear mushroom a month or so back. Very happy with my new fish :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  22. Are you an artist KP? Very , um, very, um, um very expressive
  23. Reef wrote: Yip, close. Both HFF Albany and Jansens had mandarins at $85. Jansens was slightly bigger, but HFF had both the picturatus (spotted) and the splendidus (striped). Very nearly bought the splendidus BTW Reef. I got that piece for the streams that I was missing. Cheers anyway Skippy
