  1. What's AW?? I'd be very keen on reading that article Caryl.
  2. What is this sponge filter Caryl? I've never heard of that one :-?
  3. I'm setting up a another breeding tank and wondering about what type of filter to use. I've been told an UG filter is a no-no for egg-scatterers. What I'm going to try my luck with first are rummy nose tetras. Also want to try cardinal tetras. I've only tried livebearers before. I was going to lay down gravel with marbles on top. Any thoughts? I have another tank full of 10 wk old guppies. They are about 15mm long. When are these going to be safe in a community tank with 4 good sized angels?
  4. I asked at the LFS if they had Siamese Algae Eaters and they said that they were called Black Line Flying Foxes. I can't find them called that in my books or on the net called that at all. Does anyone know if that is in fact correct? I've read that the SAE are often confused with other types of Flying Foxes.
  5. I'll try that. I'm more than happy with what I've got. I certainly don't want anything better as I'm throwing away cuttings every week!
  6. How long before I should see algae dying off. I've been using as per the bottle for 8 days now and can't see any improvement at all. ??
  7. I've got a couple of Nutrafin CO2 systems. What's a good recipe to make up instead of buying the sachets? Cheers, Al
  8. How do you guys get on with the ph when using water straight from the tap. The ph at my place is 7.6. Chlorine isn't a problem as our filter takes that out. I used to use proper ph 7 and aquaplus in 20 litre containers for a few days before doing a change. Recently the lfs put me onto using ph down instead, however I seem to using heaps of this as the tank regularly is 7.4 - 7.6. I've a 4 ft tank, with harlequins, neons, angels, clown loaches and gouramis. I've tested rain water at 7, but read the pollutents in the air nowadays make this a bit dodgey. Your thoughts?
  9. I have just disconnected the co2. I've noticed the bubbles aren't so much of a mass now, and are moving more along the edges. The gourami is still there thou.
  10. I have 2 dwarf gouramis, but just 1 of them hangs around the bubbles. If he joins to the other one, he quickly bolts back in no time
  11. I do have a dwarf gourami hanging around. I noticed it last night and is still about now. I've found a nest in a fish book now it that's just like that. What's chances have any fry got in a community tank. My other tank's full of week old guppies!!
  12. I put a couple of co2 into my 4 ft tank a couple of weeks ago, and last night changed the position of the fluval spray bars so they are now beneath the water level. I've noticed a lot of bubbles in a corner accumulating from the co2 difuser. So many that it's starting to froth. Is this normal? The fish are acting normally.
  13. I've just put 2 nutrafin co2 systems into my 4 ft tank and have read not to have too greater water agitation on the surface. I run a fluval 103 and a 203 with spray bars into the tank which really stirs the water up. They are usually 1 to 2 inches above the water level. Looking in my manual it dosn't say where to have the spray bar. Is it better to have it under the surface?

    Rock glue

Can someone recommend a non-toxic glue suitable for glueing rocks together for inside the tank?
  15. I've been offered some swords. There about 6-12 mths old. Any special instructions for the transferring of these between tanks, or do you think they'll be fine? Thanks
  16. I'm wanting the best light for growing plants in my 4 ft tank and can get a good discount on Philips gear. Water depth is 35cm. Does anyone know if they produce good tubes for this? I've got (forgive spelling) Amazon sword, Barthi sword, Rotala, Rubera, Java moss, Lysacia hygrophilia difformis and various Cyrpts. Many thanks
