[sterilizing a tank]

what can i use that won't be harmful to fish when i use the tank again later and what are the processes of using that product to make sure it isn't?

My albino rainbow shark decided that he was going to jump out of the tank last night. STUPID FISH!!

i was feeding the fish this morning, with the cats hanging around my ankles when one came out from under the tank and ran off into the kitchen.

i followed her out to find a rather dried up, dusty fred in her jaws.

there was no way that the cats could have got to him in the tank.

i had him for nearly 4yrs, my partner had him for a couple before that.

yep. see the list i have below, they are all in the same tank no probs. (well, all except the tree frogs and cats)

it seems that there is some action in my tank. the males are chasing the females around and trying to win their favour

if anything does come out of this, any hints or tips on how to deal with the fry? (if the eggs don't get eaten first)

jude gave me some cuttings and my plec has wiped out 2 types of plant. the rest are barely hanging in there cause my CAE's like to have a go too. the only ones that rarely get touched are the cabomba and ambulia, and the Java moss that i originally had in the tank.

i cleaned out my filter today (just the plastic parts not the media) and there was brown stuff every inside. now form what i've read, this is the good bacteria, yes??

my filter media is covered and it was all over the plastic too.

can there be too much of a good thing?

they still eat and swim around, though it looks as though its getting more of a struggle for Bubbles and is getting rather tired.

we have 2 goldfish. a while ago it looked like one (squeek) had had its fine nipped by the other (half a tail gone). a couple of weeks later the second (bubbles) had seemed to have lost half its tail too.

a little over a week ago i noticed that bubbles tail had gone completely and squeeks was unchanged.

i started dosing with melafix last friday, 9-12-05, and when i looked in the tank today i noticed that bubbles is getting worse. you can now see the bone. Squeek has, what looks to be the same thing, at the base of the body, just not as far gone as bubbles.

is there any point in continuing with the melafix treatment, or would it be better to put the fish down? they belong to my stepson.

any advice on this? i have read something somewhere about things that should be done to the new sponges first but can't remember where.

i have to change them as the current ones are full of snails which are stopping the filter from operating properly.

i noticed that too. made me laugh as i have nearly 100 that i'm going to get rid of. i wouldn't of thought of selling them though as they are too common and all you need is 2 to get started on your way to over population. i'm currently in the process of clearing them out of my tank.

the tank is currently empty. the silicon thats already there has peeled away slightly and is also in some parts green from when the tank was in use.

i have heaps of little snails in my tank. never had a problem with them until i got my filter. they are all over the outside and inside. how do i stop them from doing this or if this is not possible, how do i get rid of them perminately?

this little guys are good for cleaning the tank, but they have become a problem as i believe that they are stopping the fliter from working properly. it's suppoed to suck air through into the tank and it is no longer doing this.
