  1. I remember reading about glow in the dark fish a year or so ago in an FHM magazine - just a short snippet titled something along the lines of 'Glow in the dark fish - the perfect gift for Chenobyl children'
  2. I'd have to say that Fisn'n'Chips are a NZ staple takeaway too, but you won't find many with vinegar or mushie peas! Those fish look nice, hope they go well for you.
  3. Alrighty..cheers for the info. They're all around the same length, but the dominant one has a larger body shape. The other two play fight every now and then but this guy is the business. Will see how he goes..also tested the tank water this morning and there's no sign of Ammonia, Nitrites and very little Nitrates. pH is also around 7..so I don't think there's a problem with the water. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated!
  4. Hi guys..not sure this is really the right forum as I don't consider myself a total beginner to the hobby, but oh well I have three clown loaches in my tank. Usually they're active the whole time..swimming up and down the glass and clicking away. On Tuesday I noticed that only two of them were going into a frenzy at feeding time (once daily just before lights-out)... the third (fattest of the trio and most dominant) was nowhere to be seen. I went and got a torch and had a look in one of the completely dark caves under my driftwood, and there he was, lying upside down (before you mention it I know it's common for these guys to rest in that position!), and looking like he was just chilling out. Next night he was in the same place, and every night since then. I'm just wondering if other people who have kept/keep Clown Loaches have ever experienced one of them suddenly deciding to turn into a bit of a loner and not come out for food. I'm mildly alarmed by it...but can't see any sign of Ich. All the other fish in the tank appear to be completely normal. So yeah.. any comments?

    Gidday!

Cool guys, thanks for the confirmation. I originally thought that I'd bought 3 males (I'd hoped for 1 male and 2 females, but when I got to the shop realised that all their dorsal fins looked pretty much the same..so just got the three most active/healthy looking ones), but when I looked at that photo once I put it on my computer I suddenly thought that it could be a female. And thanks for the interesting info Sirkus

    Gidday!

Cheers for the warm welcome guys! I did as you said Caryl, and came up with some pretty nice shots (I think so anyway). Most of them were out of focus but there were a few good ones: One question for you people out there who know a thing or two about gourami - in the 3rd picture, is that a male or a female? Cheers guys

    Gidday!

Cheers guys, and thanks for the photography tips Caryl. I bought about $50 worth of plants earlier in the year Heather, got them mailed to me, but they weren't exactly in good condition by the time they arrived - pretty mushed up. I'm not exactly thrilled about the thought of trying it again! Will see how it's looking in a few weeks time before I look into getting any more anyway. What I really need is some sort of carpet plant..are there any recommendations?

    Gidday!

Hi guys, I signed up here sometime last year but never introduced myself, and seeing as I've finally got a tank up and running again I thought I'd do so now. I'm Tim, I live in Blenheim at the moment (previous Wellingtonian). I have a 170l planted tropical tank which is a constant work in progress. From what I can tell all the inhabitants are enjoying themselves. What do I have in there? 3 Clown Loaches 3 Pearl Gouramis 2 Bristlenoses 10 Glowlight Tetra 5 tiny Harlequin Rasbora 5 Black Phantom Tetra Here's a picture I took yesterday (new plants added so it's not as planted as I'm hoping for, yet. Also there's not exactly a large range of plants here in Blenheim!): Sorry about the reflections, I'll take better photos when I recharge my camera if people are interested at all.
