    neon's again

hi all --one of my neons is acting funny -swimming in what's best described as "twitches" and seems to have trouble keeping position in the water and is lent over on to it's side some times . Colour and shape are fine though. Any ideas
  2. hadn't mixed the med's -figured i'd better ask first, did my partial water change today & re dosed with meth blue... fish looking better-fungus is less pronounced - am planning to leave it a couple of days untill no sign of fungus then do water changes every day+put carbon in the filter. will then dose with Melafix for a couple of days before returning to the main tank
  3. what sort of quantity of salt?
  4. just thought -would adding some Melafix be a good idea?
  5. figure i don't have enough of a delicate touch to dose something as small as a neon without squshing the poor creature- and staining the tank/silicon isn't an issue ,it's old and tatty anyway :-?
  6. ok -finally caught the neon :- www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/help-catching ... 26739.html and got him into my quarantine tank, dosed with Methylene blue but theres no instructions on the bottle apart from the initial dosage - how long should i keep the fish there ?(guessing until fungus has gone?) should I redose? and when? what should I do about water changes? I'd normaly do a 25% change every day in this small tank
  7. tried catching the little bugger last night but the neon's sleep in the weed and all i managed to do was rip up half my tank....
  8. hi - one of my neons has small growths on its "nose" which i figure are a fungal infection (cotton mouth) my problem is that I cant catch the bugger without destroying my planted tank and stressing the other fish any suggestions please I've tried a home made fish trap and caught almost every one but him :-?
  9. Unfortunatly lost all 4,one disapeared compleatly and i couldn't find him amongst the weed and gravel I'd in the tank for them, 2 died quite quickly and the 4th I had to euthanise as he was obviously in serious distress after a couple of days--sad i still dont know what happened -at one point nitrates were a little higher than I'd like (not bad though) but the regular(daily) water changes did nothing to help. I'd like to get more but I've kind of lost confidence now
  10. Thanks just done another water change- nitrates ,amonia etc were not high though...am clueless here
  11. any one?? - been out and found other loaches the same any ideas?
  12. Hi all -I've 4 small loaches in my quarentene (20 liter aprox)tank and was to put them in my main tank this week, one of them is in trouble though . I spotted it going madly in tight circles this morning and didn't think any thing of it, i've just got in from work and found it curled up and breathing heavily. i've done a big water change and added an extra airstone...it's all i can think of right now . fish seems ok otherwise -no wounds that I can see and colour seems ok tanks small but ive been doing small(20 %ish) water changes every other day, temp normal (28 deg c) the other fish are hiding which seems to be the norm saw them all yesterday though- so I dont know what they're doing
  13. Any one ever see dwarfpuffers for sale here?-If you did where and how much were they. I've been looking at them on the net and would love some.
  14. mostly trumpet (i think) snails+ some regular shaped small ones
  15. any ideas apart from clown loaches? I'm looking for somthing south American to go in to my Amason tank with dwarf cichlids ,neons and pencils
  16. yeah-wasn't thinking of white spot -did think of cotton mouth, but Fluran 2 didnt do anything -just not sure
  17. ok -sorry it took so long but things have been all out here . these photo's arn't the best and i've edited them so only the two fish affected are here. if you look at the jaw&"nose" area you can see a bump -if I could have got a head on photo it looks to be an off white colour. as the fish dont seem to be behaving differantly and the bump's arn't getting any bigger -I'm wondering if it could be some kind of scaring or birth defect?? the Fluran-2 treatment had no effect any Ideas as I wan't to get these little buggers back into my main tank so I can use the hospital tank to quarantine some replacement pencils
  18. I have made a tentative(sp?) id if Cotton mouth on the neons -I've dosed with Furan 2 -2 cycles as recomended in my hospital tank , however there seem's little or no change . any Ideas or suggestions?
  19. Ok- she's healing well -although the eye is gone -somthing realy had a go at her-will be adding extra plants on sunday(stargrass) which should provide more cover/places to hide-could any one suggest some floating plants as the tank is still quite bare at the top. thats the good news -everything else seems to have gone to hell :- http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/having ... 21161.html
  20. ? sorry what do you mean? are you refering to an under gravel filter? my tank hasn't got one there's a trickle filter. The white spots on my neons hasn't got worse -not better though. any help appreciated
  21. hi folks things arnt good in my tank - first my female golden dwarf cichlid was injured http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/help-p ... 21043.html then I put some melaflex (less than half dose!) into my main tank as several of my Neons had nipped fins-within an hour I noticed my golden pencils were looking stressed and were "gasping" at the top of the tank. An emergency 60% water change and adding carbon to the filter didn't help and 5 out 6 died.I've since found out thet Pencil fish have trouble with Melafix although this was a worse reaction than I have read about. now I've just noticed that some of the Neon tetras have white spots on their nose or lower jaw otherwise they seem fine- would post a photo but they arn't still long enough. could this be white spot ? fungal infection? Is there a generalised treatment (other than Melafix-I want my last pencil to survive) whichI could use?
  22. Eyes looking mutch better today-wound's just forward of the eye -to early to tell but posible that the eye itself may be ok I can take a good guess that it's the panduro-thought there'd be enough cover for every one to co-exist but looks like I was wrong . just did some minor re arangements and will be adding more plants before re intoducing her to the main tank -hope that will help
  23. ok got hospital tank set up -had to wait over 2 hours before she was out in the open and I could catch her with out undue stress. got a better look at the eye -is definatly a wound of some type -theres flesh (or what looks to be flesh ) hanging loose . will keep you informed of progress-thanks for your help especially when Michelle was on here while I was at work
  24. bought melafix and will be setting up hospital tank later when I get a box filter off Gannet. just a bare tank with some cover (Ambula) and a cave-that ok?
  25. photo's arn't too god but should show what i mean any sugested treatments? should I seperate from the main tank-I have a little 27 liter tank I can use as a hospital tank - would only take a short time to set up
