HELP!! My white worms culture has mites!

Featured Replies

I keep my whiteworms in a poly box with holes in the top for ventilation, but now there are mites in it. The mites are a reddy brown colour and are on and under the bread I feed to the whiteworms. The white worms look OK but will the mites cause any problem or hurt the fish if I feed any with the worms. Should I be removing the bread when it gets mouldy and doughy? How Often should their compost be changed? :-?

Only need to change the compost if the worms start climbing out.

Remove bread if it goes mouldy, but better still, don't feed so much, so as they eat it all.

Do you wet the bread first then squeeze it out when you put it into the culture??

The mites are a bonus,

looks yuk,

tastes yum. Fishwise that is.

Remember with the summer here now, the white worms need to be kept cool.

They hate warmth.

Thanks Alan, I will keep an eye on how much I am feeding them. I have been careful not to feed the mites to the fish so won't worry in the future. :D

Mites do nothing to WW except compete for food and they are small.
