Please help, my little gold gourami is striking himself on everything in my tank over and over again. I have looked as close as I can and cant see anything obvious, what should I do?

He's most likely doing what is known as flashing, which is an indication something is irritating him. I'd start by testing for pH, ammonia, nitrate, then do a good water change.

Thanks my pH was a bit high at 8.0 I don't have a test kit for anything else, am doing a water change now.

I don't know much about gourami's but google says they tolerate pH range from 6.0-8.8 so wouldn't have thought your 8.0 would have been too much of a problem.

How often do you do water changes?

I do 25% once a week. I think this is right my instruction book that came with the tank said fortnightly but it didn't seem enough was getting a bit messy after a fortnight. I have not killed anything in my main tank yet but I have only had it a few months. It was an established tank with fish when I got it.

25% a week is fine for a tank that's low to moderately stocked. I'd personally be doing 50% though. Any update on the gourami?

25% weekly sounds alright depending on how heavily stocked it is, of course. How big is it and what is it stocked with?

I have an aqua one 620, not many fish. 4 Prestella Tetra, 1 Pearl Gourami, 1 Gold gourami, 1 Clown Loach and 1 little Bristle Nose.

My Gold Gourami has settled down a bit so hopefully thats all it was.
