Raising PH?

Featured Replies

Gidday Folks,

I've got quite a few bits of wood in my tank and they seem to be lowing the PH quite a bit. Is there an easy fix for this? I was thinking of going to the beach and getting some seashells to put in but wasn't too sure if that was the right thing to do.

In almost every Yabbie video I've seen there's always seashells in the tank. I've got some calcium tablet things from the pet shop, but they just turn to a powdery sand and float around the tank - nasty.

So, do you have any ideas for how I can raise my PH above 7? It's currently around 6.8.

//EDIT: Koura are apparently happiest around 7.5+

Cheers,

Romeo

6.8 - 7.5 could be the difference in a good and bad test kit.

Ph is pretty hard to get an accurate result at the best of times.

Keeping it stable would be more important IMO.

A bit of shell would be fine, or do more water changes.

 What is a yabbie?

From what I've always read here a stable pH is the best. Sometimes in trying to achieve "the best" pH you can get fluctuations which is not the best situation.

Caper

I put handfuls of bird grit in my filter. It's probably a bit used up now though, hehe...But it should slowly increase the PH and it should only slowly drop once it starts getting used up.
