Caper
Duh, I was just going to ask if it was a cichlid till I realized I was in the cichlid forum :-? :-? :-? It's very pretty. Is the yellow underneath the mouth the actual color or is it a light shining on it???? 8) Is that its Latin name, does it have a shorter/common name? David R
does it have a shorter name? Geophagus balzanii? Yes it's latin, common names are over-rated.

freshwest
I had a look at some in our lfs here in Pukekohe. They are very skinny as well. Looks like they had a hard time in quarantine. I was reading some info on them and it said they require a 3 month month period each year were you need to drop the temp to 20 C .
Luke*
I can just imagine how many LFSs would tell their customers that
Caper
Yes it's latin, common names are over-rated Not to me    no good at those names
David R
You won't get any better by just using common names! It's not actually that hard once you sorta learn the basics of how latin words are pronounced. Luke I guess the answer to your question is similar to the number of LFS's that sell pacu's, arowanas etc to people who don't have 1000L+ tanks.... sharn
amen to that david but i wont get started. if a store stocks pacu it instantly puts me off. ill be walking round thinking 'yeah, neat shop, they seem to know what theyre doing' then BAM baby pacu in a tank and i just think of those poor fishies that are going to grow massive but most likely die/get killed before they even live half their lives
