ocean4freedom
Had a bit of luck on the weekend. My two bettas (Dark blue male with crimson fins and red-rose female) got jiggy with it and I now have loads of tiny little grains of salt with tails... Kinda commical to see the male betta missioning up and down collecting the truant babies! But my question is, what's the view on feeding them once they are free swimming? I'm thinking of the 1/2 yolk, 1/2 water mix but what other home-made food is good? I've tried the green water method but maybe its just too cold at the moment or my place has too little sun - the water is still just plain tank water. Keep meaning to post so pics of my tank but camera just died - coming soon!
PENEJANE
I did the egg yolk for my first lot. As long as you keep a very close eye on the water and fry you should be ok. Once they are about a week or so older you could try microworms. I gave mine microworms from the word go and they seem to be doing just fine and this is my 3rd spawning Congratulation and good luck. :bounce:
ocean4freedom
Cheers for that. Where do you get your micro worms from? Can't wait to get home and see more of the spawning saga
livebearer_breeder
I use BBS from free swimming. They grow quicker. Shae
HummingBird
It's probably a little late now but another great way to culture infusoria is using an apple snail or similarly messy creature and just feed them a whole lot (Hence their nickname "Infusoria snail") Microworms on trademe: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 256847.htm
Souxsi
I know this is also late, but for next time: When I bred these cute little buggers I used mainly tiny brine shrimp. I just turkey basted a lot into a micro net, rinsed, and dumped it in the frys tank... they loved it. You can buy a hatchery or make your own. I'm not sure how much packets of brine shrimp eggs go for here, but they were cheap in the US. Btw how are the babies doing??
