Aquagold
The wife wants to go to some pacific island for a holiday..... so while I'm there might as well check out the local waters... Where's the best coral reefs - islands to visit? Snorkling as I don't have my dive cert. Rob

cookie extreme
vanuatu if money is no object, northern island group of tonga (outer islands) is great. fiji is ok but avoid coral coast, raro is poor unless you just started same goes for aitutaki. PC100
The reef was unbelievable.. water clear as swimming pools even from decks of boats. Fish are friendly and butterflies in abundance. I snorkelled off the resort's jetty and saw all sorts including a moray eel, picassos, lemonpeels, clams, etc. We also played with the stingrays and had our backs massaged by them (they were tamed but live in the wild). skippy
Hey Aquagold Got back from Fiji this afternoon. Absolutely stunning diving. Weather and visibility a bit crap for first few days, had head cold for next few days and visibility 30m+ for last few days. For value you cannot beat Subsurface Fiji. They have an unlimited package (ie as many dives as you can get in) for $690F (own gear except weights and tanks). Due to the head cold only got 10 in myself but basically missed out 4 days diving. Got a couple of hundred underwater photos of everything from acros, anenomes, leathers, clams, sharks, clowns, tangs, sea snake and even a three foot turtle :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Once I have got them sorted out will post them on my photobucket account and let you know. skippy
Aquagold, Just re-read and noted that you are looking at snorkling. Subsurface offer dive courses including an intro dive course (bit of techo stuff, skills in the pool and then into the sea). Get into it - the world is different with a scuba on  BTW, the snorkling is pretty cool too
Aquagold
Skippy, Looking forward to the photos. I have a mate who teaches @DiveHQ but I suffer sinus quite bad at times and my last dive left me bleeding from a few areas around the head(on honeymoon)...... Still checking things out and looking for a spot the wife and I both like..... she now wants to take the boys 5 & 6. I have been asked to go to Rara and see the cousin, plus she would be gutted if I missed her out.... Rob

cookie extreme
raro is poor unless you just started sorry to rub it in but you were warned.
Fay
It's a bit late telling me after I had booked and paid for it  But your warning softened the blow a bit, but still shocking I stuffed up my breathing the first time I went down I was so shocked at the state of the reefs and shot up to the surface from 16mtrs down they put more weights me but I still shot up gave up until the next day after I calmed down (had a cry about the state of the reef) and was fine after that. Would have been better to go to Wellington and see Pies reef would have saved a bundle.
