AquaMan
Hi If you were wondering if Swordtails can happily live in outdoor ponds in Auckland - they can't! It seems the cold has killed both of mine this week
ljtan55
Sorry to hear Aquaman. It has been really really REALLY cold lately. Been looking at my fishtank thermometer at 28 degrees in the morning and been wishing I could go for a swim. If you wanna borrow a heater I've got a spare 150watt one just sitting around
Alan
I'd love to see those so called "coldwater" guppies now. Should be a lot of replacements needed, or maybe some pee'd off aquarist getting ready to spit the dummy. Alan 104 ps I have unheated tanks in my garage and in one of them is a sword. Must check the temp and see what it is surviving in. Al
HandS
All my adult leopard fish died a few nights ago, i put it down to the cold, and they were in the garage Good thing i brought the fry inside
mustcooktea
It would surprise me if the leopard fish died because of the cold HandS! Mine have been happy down to 10 degrees still eating and active. How cold would the tank have got? MCT
shiuh
my wcmm still alive, but gone a bit pale and inactive, so i brought them back into the house, and now they are happy as like it is spring mating season.

AquaMan
Thanks for all your condolences! Sadly, I can now add Apple Snails to the list of 'don't like auckland's winter critters.' Happily my Goldfish are all well and have started their 'spring' activities. My Enunga, Danios, Mountain Minows and Red Barbs got through winter too. Phew! For anyone who has an outdoor pond and hasn't had enunga, I can highly recommend them! They have a really cool 'attitude'. The only problems I have had is that they get very stressed at the pet store and don't always survive the transition to the pond. They can also jump quite high and escape if the pond gets too full from rain. The only store I have seen them sold @ is Jansens. Oh yeah, I think they live only a couple of years and can grow to 10cm Has anyone had success with other fish, outside, over Winter?
