Matthew
I tried hydrogen peroxide (3%) a couple of days ago with no apparent effect other than some discolouration of the plant leaves. Has anyone used this method with good effect.
Shilo
It worked for me. Take a look further up on this thread on page 2. Don't just tip it into the water, you will kill off your bacteria etc. Instead you squirt the H202 onto the algae with a syringe. Of course killing the algae in your tank is only curing the symptom and not the cause. It will come back unless you find out what is favouring its growth. Matthew
It still does not appear as if there has been any effect. shall I double dose?
MGilchrist
I found when using H2O2 that there was no visible change to the algae, it just stopped growing (dead) and was easier to manually remove. Mark
Matthew
couldn't wait. Went into Jansens mt eden and purchased a bottle of brush hair algae killer. apparently this is the product they have been talking about. but they are not allowed to import it any more. there were five bottles left yesterday (behind the counter) and they cost $23.60 each. 15mL bottle containers, and my calculations suggest that they will treat a 150L tank 12-13 times. more economical than the flourish excel. Again more info re: flourish excel it kills the algae by blocking out the spectrum of light required for the algae to photosynthesise. hence killing the algae. (or at least that's what I was told). Aqua
Yeah, Jansens Glenfield was talking about that product, but I got the impression it wasn't available yet - they'd trialed it earlier, and due to success, they're getting it in again I'm definately getting a bottle for storage! MGilchrist
Can you tell me what its called and who makes it. Might be handy to have a bottle in the cupboard if LFS can get some for me
Matthew
The maker is AZOO and it is called brush hair algae killer. It is an asian company, and unfortunately I am unable to read their language. They have a website www.azoo.com.tw I guess the tw suggests it's made in taiwan. Good Luck, as I said earlier I was told at Jansens that they were banned from importing further bottles of this product. If you want to order a bottle from Jansens (not sure whether they do this but you can try) there phone number is (09)625-7915.
Floyd
I had BBA in my 190 litre community tank. I have heard a few horror stories about BBA so I trimmed all of the affected plants and everything looked very barren but good for a while but it came back with avengance. I receintly used Flourish Excell at double the on label rate and after a week the BBA started turning a nice red colour, a week later it turned grey and a week after that I can no longer see it. As a bonus the plants in my tank are looking better for using Flourish Excell as well. I have heard that Siamese Algae Eater - Crossocheilus siamensis consume BBA so I have ordered one to help keep BBA out of my tank in the future. Nooboon
Yes, I too tried the flourish excell. Warren from Brooklands gave me a bottle to trial. It worked perfectly. Go through a bit though.
