skippy
Following on from HeliFaxNZ, without hijacking the thread, what do folks out there feed their fish and corals. I mainly feed frozen (defrosted) stuff twice a day, morning and night. would probably feed them lunch too but I'm at work. Occasionally I add a bit of nori for them to gobble on - they seem to like it. With the frozen stuff, I add cubes of a variety of different things and defrost and feed it, just to give them a mix. foods include marine tucker, marine tucker green, mysis shrimp, blood worms, brine shrimp. I also occasionally feed flakes and Salifert Energy plus granules (they go ballistic over this stuff :bounce: ) - the shrimps just about climb out the tank to get it. Corals generally get Coral Food, coral grower
lduncan
For fish it's frozen mysis (when available) or frozen brine, large cocktail shrimp for the trigger, and nori. Corals, well keeping almost all SPS, light is what they get. Along with a lifetime supply of dissolved nitrogen and phosphate which comes hand in hand with feeding the fish. They don't need to be fed extra particulate food, they farm that for themselves. Layton
skippy
Layton have you got a trigger in your reef tank?? If so what type. I was setting up a trigger tank but it crashed and my niger died along with a spotted toby. Got depressed and pulled it to bits, deciding to concentrate on my reef. I know there are some triggers that are reef compatible but always been a bit reluctant to take the plunge in case it wrecks the joint. It is a long way back to the lfs from here

suphew
I mainly feed frozen (defrosted) stuff twice a day, morning and night. That seems alot of frozen food to me (infact a lot of any food) I only feed once a day and frozen every week or so. I adjust the amount of food so that the fish stay healthy looking but still pick at the algae etc. Corals get light every day  cyclops-eeze when I remember, the juice and fine stuff from frozen food, and whatever comes in with my NSW changes. Do you have problems with algae, high phosates or nitrates?
skippy
Layton The crosshatch is a beauty but my shrimps may not be too pleased Suphew You think I feed them too much?? They certainly get rid of it quick enough and hang about for more (I know that fish are expert at the "starving to death impersonations". What is this cyclops-eeze? Seen it posted a few times but have no idea what it is or where you get it. There is not much in the way of algae, and the yellow tang harvests that pretty well, have never had a problem with phosphates even on tank water, but always struggle to keep my nitrates below about 20ppm. I have a couple of sand sifters that hoover my sand for me on a fairly regular basis and they seem to clean up any leftovers that the fish miss
JoeBlog
I feed the tank once a day (sometimes missing a day) a home brew of: Frozen seafood medley from the supermarket Vitamin enriched flake Couple different pellets: Salifert Energy plus granules and something else can’t remember Spirulina flake Frozen cubes: Mysis, Brine, Marine Mix, etc… Fresh shelf fish Fresh squid And probably some other stuff that I can’t remember. Drop it all in a food processor and then freeze it in ziplock bags. I feed a small 20 cent sized portion defrosted and rinsed in tap water. I just bought an Eheim auto feeding and will give that a try soon. I want to keep some smaller fish that require frequent small feedings, but want to avoid the PITA of the feeding routine. This will use flake and pellet, given that it works well. :-?

wasp
I try to stay away from frozen foods as they do contain high po4.What about the banana then?
HelifaxNZ
Wasp, I "think" bananas have a lot of potassium not phosphate.
wasp
I see! Well I better start feeding them so I don't have to dose K-Balance!
