JDM
i got home from work tonight and i couldnt see mr cbb anywhere i looked behind all my rocks first without moving them then i decided to have a proper look and move EVERYTHING  still no sign, so i figured he jumped out and had been a late lunch for my cat  however, as i did my daily top off, i noticed that my water level had dropped much more than usual, i figured it was cold so prephaps that was to be expected, but then i noticed my overflow was not at its normal level eather (can you see where this is going :-? ) so i pulled apart my stand pipe and......there he was! i have no idea how he managed to get over the overflow, no other fish has managed it but i dont run a combe so i guess i have only myself to blame, 7000ltrs per hour what a way to go! tel
serious bummer. i have always had a comb but ran for quite a while with nothing protecting the durso entry itself....til i heard some dodgy stories. now ive got eggcrate fitted inside there as well. JDM
that is a VERY good idea, i will be buying some egg crate tomorrow and fitting it.
tel
ive got a standard durso where the inlet is a 90 degree bend. i just trimmed eggcrate down and sanded it till it was a snug push fit inside
JDM
cool, ive got a standard durso also. i even have a spare 90 degree bend that i will measure and fit the egg crate to, then fit to the standpipe.
tel
if your durso is standard as per his design, shouldnt you already have the 90 on there?
JDM
yeah i do. i was think out loud there, easier to fit the egg crate to the bend then quickly swap the bent with the egg crate for the one without. just lasy iguess

JDM
i have a plan to stop it blocking, this is where my spare elbow will come in handy, ill have the egg crate aroung 6-7mm proud of the face of the bend and cement it in place, this will prevent a total blockage, hopefully. :-?
