wasp
Just the k rating. you will be safe with the 10,000k. However $500.00 is VERY expensive. This may be of interest http://www.customaquatic.com/customaqua ... ID=lt-rmhb I have bought bulbs from there myself.

pacific blue
so would you go for 10,000k bulbs rather than the 6,500k bulbs i have at the moment? I dont realy care about it looking good im just tring to get the most rapid coral growth.
Ira
In general 6500K will be better for growth because, in general, you get a higher PAR the lower the kelvin...Generally...Specific bulbs of different brands and qualities of higher kelvins might be better than lower quality lower kelvin brands... lduncan
Check out Joe Berger's site for info on PAR ratings of heaps of different brand halides. The XM 10ks get good ratings: http://www.cnidarianreef.com/lamps.cfm
pacific blue
what exactly is the PAR rating?
lduncan
Photosynthetically Active Radiation. It gives you an idea of how much light in the output spectrum of a bulb is useful to plants. (In our case zooxanthellae) Higher PAR means there is more of the right type of light for the plants to do their thing.
