stu
I have just bought a Eheim 2213 and i am having trouble 'priming' to get it started. I am using the 'syphon' method by sucking on the outlet side but the filter just makes noises and will not start pumping the water through. Can anyone shed any light on the situation and provide there recommendations/ tell me what i am doing wrong?
slappers
it can only be a air lock, you have got no kinks in the hoses. is the impella working just double check theses the out put hight is OK
stu
yea all the hoses seem fine, are these units usually hard to start? prop seems fine too
fishboi
i lean my on its side one way then the other that usually gets rid of the air and gets it started.

whetu
I presume this is sorted by now (I'm only 1 week late with my reply!) My suggestion is to make sure the intake and outlet are both thoroughly underwater. The first time I tried to prime my eheim, I didn't have the spray bar completely underwater, so air was being sucked back in and preventing it starting. Seems obvious now, but I was tired and not thinking straight! :-? stu
No, been a busy week so i havent had a chance to have another go at getting it started. This was brought 2nd hand but i know that it works. Another Q...I take it that i should buy all new media before i let it filtering my tank? And if i do this will it be ok to set up on my tank with new media without allowing to cycle to build up good bacteria?
sharn
i would probably ditch the sponges, not sure about any bio media- perhaps you could just bake/boil it for a bit? do ya have any other filters you can steal a bit of media from to chuck in the new filter? that will kick start everything growing. when i wanted to swap my filters over (from internal to new canister) i let the canister run in on the tank for 3 weeks or so and then took out the old one. worked fine and didnt have any probs. good luck with starting it :bounce:
