ghostface
what is the best additive to raise the calcium level [not kh] in a tank?
wasp
Calcium Chloride. It can be bought at the LFS for somewhere around $50.00 per kilo, or pm Cracker he knows somewhere to get a good quality grade of it for way less, but you have to get 25 kg sack. I think it's $130.00 or similar for the sack.

They are a slighly different chemical formula, dihydrate has in effect, more water in the molecule than anhydrous. So anhydrous actually contains more calcium per kilo. Can't quite remember but just off my head I think the amount is roughly 20% more calcium in the anhydrous one.

rossco
Hey Cracker, I'll let you in on a secret. Your tank has been nominated by all the other forum members as the 'experimental' tank. We encourage you to try lots of wacky things and then stand back to see if they work. When they do we rush in and do it ourselves. Its called being at the leading edge...(sometimes known as the bleeding edge)
wasp
Ha Ha!!! Funny but true! Cracker is a great guy to know because 1. he does have a great tank & is therefore worth listening to, and 2. He does think outside the square and has some great insights.
