suphew
no nothing about arro's but have they checked the water parameters, fish sometimes get skitish if the water is not right.
sharn
aros are pretty notorious for jumping, ive been told of a few people that have had 8mm glass lids shattered and others with aros that have pushed lids off with bricks on top they are some mighty strong fish thats for sure. aros will often jump when they see something on the lid whether it be a food can or a fly, is your brother putting anything on the tank so that the aro would associate him with food? im not sure if that could be a possibility but it seems funny hes all of a sudden started jumping for no reason. do you have bright lights on the tank in a dim room? fish cant see out too well when the lights in their tank are brighter than the room, they see reflections pretty much and sometimes ive startled my fish when ive gone to feed them, maybe hes getting freaked out? for the damaged mouth i wouldnt think melafix would hurt but im not up on aros to know if theyre sensitive to meds or not so probably best to double check on that one, keep an eye on it though incase it develops any probs
candy
we have a aro that does this too.mostly its because we give him a big fright so we have learned to always walk slowely past the tank and to not rush up to it in any ways..also make sure your lid is on tight our aro is forever moving the glass when he bumps it...also he probaly thinks when ever u come up to the tank your going to feed him and then jumps for the food. we now hold the food in out hand and plunge it in to the water so he know to go down for it not up . also we dont aproch the tank at night as this it the best time to give the fish a fright.. i hope his mouth fixes soon.we have used melafix on our and no harm done by it,just sheck the other fish are ok with it. craig
hi, i would check water conditions. aro's are notorious for jumping but i have found that unless a moth or you walk up to the tank when their light is on but the room is dark that will make them jump. otherwise aro's hate nitrates and also hate a ph that is to high. they perfer 6.8-6.0. if the water is wrong it will make them extremely flighty. fish will commite suicide by jumping out if water is all wrong. i keep mine 6.5 after waterchange and it takes 2 weeks to go down to 6.0,then i waterchange, asain only jumps at moths. shell

sharn
hope ya got a biiiiig tank... i saw a silver on TM for once (didnt that go to monaro?) that was something like 76cm!!! if you go by the 4Lx2Lx2L (L being length of fish) and silvers reach around 60cm thats a 240x120x120 tank (probably dont need height but you know what they say about big volumes of water being easier to keep stable and all that). the width might be slightly excessive but they are big fish that need the space. so when you get this big tank are you sending out invites to all us locals to come around and get jealous  p.s. did i contact you bout the club? my minds gone bust tonight and i cant think who ive contacted
