Faran
Wow, that's a cool fish. Never seen them in NZ before. I have a Ctenopoma acutirostre and think they're amazing fish. Have you seen ornate ctenopomas in the shops?
Alan
2fishy has/had some in the LFS where he is. I have bred them and have also shown them. The judge had never seen them before and said that due to them not showing and just hiding in the back of the bare tank that the "paradise fish" were not given high marks. So you know what they are similar too, and the colour banding. I was very disappointed with the lack of knowledge of the judge/judges and it was also prolly the first time they had been shown in NZ. The pair were kept in a very heavily planted tank and I only found out that I had babies when showing the adults to a friend. Easy to keep and I was very tempted to get them when I last saw them. I am surprising myself and also the wife, with the ability to come from the shops now without a bag or two or three of fish. Faran
Google could have answred this for you with the first result - Males are belligerent towards one another, although otherwise a peaceful species that can be combined with peaceful fish. Small fish may be preyed upon. Pretty much the same as my leopard ctenopoma. Wicked to watch when you drop a guppy in the tank...
