Aqua One CF1000 canister filter

Hi. I just bought a brand new Aqua One CF1000 canister filter off TradeMe for our 200l fishtank.

It came with media including little, plastic black balls which I have in the bottom area of the filter. These bounce around in the bottom as the water is filtered through which I assume is what they're supposed to do.

The thing is that the noise they create bouncing around is becoming irritating. Do I need to add more of these balls? Or do I have them in the wrong compartment?

I have ceramic noodles in the middle compartment and coarse sponge and wool in the top.

Cheers

John

Congratulations on your purchase John

If you have them in the bottom compartment on top of the blue? sponge they should be a bit tighter - fill any left over space with either more bioballs or some of the noodles. They should be quieter above the sponge tho.

You can get some more media for the other basket (it has 2 ??) or if you are el cheapo like me you could use 6-8 mm pumice or something like that - the basket does not need to be full. The more thats in them the slower the flow coming out is. If the pumice is too fine the flow will be poor. Just be careful not to let any get into the impellor, Mine has three baskets so I'm assuming you have the sponge for the bottom and the one for the top as well? In mine the top sponge and the plastic grate on top of it all stops this happening.

IMHO filter wool needs replacing / at least rinsing out too often as it restricts the flow. If thats not in there then you shouldn't need to open it for months. The hoses need cleaning as often as you can be bothered though - thats a bit annoying but apart from that they are great filters.
