wasp
4:24am???!!! the misses booted him out He must get booted out quite often cause he quite often posts in the wee hours! But so do a lot of fishy folk...! bet ya he sits with his torch in front of his tank to watch the "night life" :bounce: What?? You mean there's guys who go to bed instead of sitting up with a torch watching the tank at 4.30 am!!!?? Well that's what I'd LIKE to be doing, but the real reason for the late posts is that curse of reefkeeping people, WORK. I can't believe I have to work I should get paid for looking after my tank  But seriously, I run a commercial cleaning business & 2 of my staff on holiday at the moment so I'm up till all hours covering things. But hey, to those who haven't tried it, night watching the tank with a torch is pretty cool, but also a good way to get your partner upset! So should only be done in moderation.
rossco
You must give your customers a great service if you apply the same standards in your business as what you do to your tank!! Thought about starting a branch in Hamilton??
chimera
arghh!!! tested again today (1 week after last test) and everything has dropped again. Mg 1080 kH 6.4 Ca 320 I bought some zeo-mag chips for the reactor which I'll be adding today. Also got some mag chloride as a backup so added some of this now to try and get Mg up a bit. PITA! chimera
Cleaned out the calcium reactor tonight. The thin piece of filter wool that sits at the bottom of the reactor was FILTHY, surprised the circulation pump managed. I put the Magnesium chips in then realised I had more calcium carbonate so added that,... then decided might as well add the rest of the Mg. I assume its not a major having Mg half way down in the reactor? (since most say to add on top) And when hooking it back up, a bit to much force pushing the plumbing on the pump and I snapped the plumbing... Anyone know where I can get a replacement part? I've super glued and waiting for it to dry but I really dont think its gonna hold

chimera
 Mg 1140 Ca 300 kH is ok now on 8.0 but cant get the bloody calcium reactor working with a bung impeller.
chimera
What level of Calcium is considered low, and what is considered bad or dangerous levels? (ie: between when sps can cope and when sps will die!) Any ideas? I obviously want to keep Ca within the boundaries but know its going to take a little while for my reactor to bring levels back up. Levels are still low (as above)
cookie extreme
mine sits around 340 to 370, have so much in the tank sucking calcium that its hard getting it any higher. but thats ok
Alan
Could you glue in a piec on the inside of the fitting and join it that way? Or would that cut down your volume too much?? Alan
chimera
Could you glue in a piec on the inside of the fitting and join it that way? thats what i sort of did, i used a rotary tool to hone out the existing plumbing but for the life of me couldnt find a socket that would fit inside a 16mm piece of plumbing. i ended up taking a piece out of the inside of another piece of plumbing and tried using that. it sort of works but still leaks. if anyone know where i can get 16mm plumbing (or rather sockets that fit inside it) from let me know. already tried plastic systems who import a good deal of plumbing but they dont have anything.
