rossco
As a matter of interest, anybody have any idea what percentage of the fish that end up in our tanks have been collected from the 'wild'? Puts a different perspective on how we decide what to put in our tanks...for me anyways!

Feelers
Unfortunately aquaculturing marine animals can be very difficult. Many require huge tanks, which makes it impractical, and others just dont seem to breed at all. Raising the young is another problem too. In america there's a bit of a market for aquacultured stuff, but all the best marine fish are the ones that cant be bred easily. Also fish in most places are so cheap that aquaculturing them isnt viable just because the fish are so much more expensive.
lduncan
Puts a different perspective on how we decide what to put in our tanks...for me anyways! So would the price of captive bred fish. For example you can get captive bred dwarf angels, like Centropyge interruptus for a couple of thousand USD. Compared with US$500 wild caught (they generally only come from Japan). Clowns $70 vs. $30. http://www.rcthawaii.com/ Layton
cookie extreme
on another note, heard on the radio yesterday that the yanks recommend to eat fish at least 4 times a week to stay healthy (heart wise). makes you wonder where they think all that fish is suppose to come from? our already badly stripped oceans? :-? Pies
Cookie - There is very little fish in a McDonalds fish burger... Probably just beaks and hoofs with fish flavor thrown in.
